Weight

Here is a question, and can I have a sensible answer. I am 15 and I weigh 13 stone. My overall height is 6 foot 2 so you can imagine that to be pretty tall. I used to eat pretty much everything in sight like choccie biscuits, crisps and I used to binge a lot on fizzy drinks which arent really that good for you, I used to eat chips a lot as well so recently I have decided to cut out all that kinda **** and just eat sensibly and eat loads of salad, fruit, tuna and pasta. I have been visiting the gym, and at home I have been doing the weights and doing plenty of sit ups, press ups and squats. I have been drinking plenty of water as this makes you feel bloated, and one of the tricks is to eat chewie as well as you have something to chew on in your mouth which isnt food.

So basically the question is would you say a 6ft2 teen (me) weighing in at 13 stone is overweight? I have been losing weight over the past few weeks and my belly and legs have gone down, so I look alright for my height and I dont think 13 stone is that heavy for someone my height, and once I lose some more weight then I will be alrite. The thing is I hate sports like footy and boxing, so this is my downfall. But what do you all do to keep the weight off? And is this overweight?

It's your own perception of yourself that matters.

Don't worry mate, weight is not an indicator of health. It's more important that you exercise and eat healthy meals. It's only bad to be overweight because statistically speaking the more you weigh the worse the health. However, this is a drastic generalisation.

BMI has it's uses but it's doesnt differenciate between muscle and fat. Therefore a boxer or a weightlifter may be obese according to BMI because of their weight of muscle when in actual fact they are much fitter and healthy than the average person of an average weight.

There is this myth that the there is a law that the heavier you weig,h the more likely you are to to have die but this is a problem of cause and effect.

Weight isn't a cause of these problems. It's the unhealthy diet, (e.g. too much LDL cholesterol, not enough fruit and vegetable, too much fat, to much salt) and lack of exercise that cause these problems.

The reason that people that are overweight have a higher risk of these problems is NOT because of them being overweight - as i mentioned before being overweight doesnt cause these problems - it's because statistically more people that overweight have a less healthy diet and have too little exercise. This is the CAUSE of people who are overweight having a lower life expectancy.

Sorry, but this really annoys me how people don't understand that it's not weight that causes higher mortality rate, it's the lack of exercise and bad diet that causes these effect that is a higher mortality rate!

You personally seem to do exercise, eat well and go to the gym you are perfectly fine. Losing weight won't make any difference to your average health, I hope you can understand that it's more important that you eat healthy foods, do exercise and don't become these people that starve themselves and run in the gym for 3 hours and then go... wow i lost 5 pounds and then use this fact do eat a really **** diet and don't exercise ever again!

And as someone else said... chill

Just because you eat junk doesn't make you overwieght. I eat junk, and I'm underweight if anything. I wouldn't think the weight and height given would make you overweight, but I'm not very good with stuff like that. You can find info out about it on loads of websites though.

I'm 6'3" and I weight about 15 stone 4... according to my BMI I am overweight - which is ridiculous seeing as my body fat is about 13% according to my doctor.

If you're concerned about your weight get a check up with your doctor they can give you advice on exercise/diets you can use to maintain a healthy weight.

As for exercise I get, I just go for a brisk walk each day. I used to go the gym too, which is something I'd recommend doing.

I'm about the same weight as you, perhaps a little less, and i'm 6'1. It runs in the family though, my parents and grandparents are generally slim, and I have a high metabolism. i've tried putting on a bit of weight but it doesn't work lol, my body just doesn't want it.

I'm 5ft 11" and "normal to thin" as well. Can't do anything to put weight on so I'm pretty happy with the way I am.

As has been said above, it's all about you feel about yourself as long as your not sending yourself to an early grave.
