Well, I live in the local area, and there is a lot to do, DEPENDING, on what you enjoy.

To be quite frank, the clubs are ultra crappo :frown:
Pubs in the city, you are spoilt for choice, as there are rumored to be at least 30, and possibly more then 50. although, I have never found all of them.
It's been a mission, of sorts:wink:
There is loads of good opportunities for sporting and outdoor activies, hiking, kayacking, mountains to climb, that sort of thing.
There are some local paintballing clubs too, and plenty of sports centres and gyms to go to.

Question - Isn't Bangor Uni a million miles from the town centre itself.

I have a friend who has applied to Bangor for Psychology and put that as his firm choice. I was surprised considering his A level results and his private upbringing. He put Bangor ahead of a host of other good unis as well. But he's not even been to the uni to check it out. Is this a bad idea, being that this individual lives in the heart of London?
He may fancy a change from busy London, I my self would rather go to a quiet place then an inner city uni. I've booked a place on the open day in October so will know more then.

It's a quiet place but not boring.

It's not far from the town at all, from what I recall

i went to visit it the other day and i thought the place was horrible 2 b honest. but thats because i want to live in a city and although bangor is classified as one its very tiny. so i guess it just depends what u prefer

It seems smaller then it is, as it extends and rambles around quite a bit.
A lot of it isnt high street, or really that much of a "shoppy" place.
Just a really small, quiet town :P
The University itself is scattered in departments throughout city, so the George site is practically outside the city, near the Menai Bridge, but the Physics Department where my Dad works is right on the High Street. It all depends what you are studying.
Do you know where about the chemistry department is??

When I went on an open day it seemed ok. Trouble was I went at half-term and stayed overnight on the Sunday, and no clubs were open so I just went to a few pubs.

It is a very small city though. I live in a town at the moment, which is probably 10 times bigger than Bangor.

I've been in Bangor on/off for four years and am now going to uni there.. so it can't be THAT boring.. it has got about 60 pubs, 2 clubs and also a couple of the pubs have dance floors.. there's a cinema but it's not exactly UCI.. and a few good takeaways.. shopping wise, the town centre isn't that big, but there are some new superstores and they're even building a two-storey tesco (ooh) If you're into exercise then Bangor's definitely the place for you, but if you want somewhere more lively you're better off in a big city. Hope this helps.

Bangor Uni is pretty central. Bangors Psychology department are also one of the best in the country people are put off by the fact that the town is quite quiet. But the pub:tongue:eople ratio is great. I have some good friends in Bangor and no-one I talk to who goes their hates it, all love it. Its great for outdoorsy stuff and for bing a campus stule uni in the middle of the town. Its not diffucult to get to Liverpool/Manc from there and its very very pretty. Good surf near by, all in all a good place. Was very close to going their myself. They have jsut been voted one of the most studnet friendly unis as well.
I like Bangor loads when I went up there. I can't wait to get there now.
