Neck pain

hi everyone,

woke up this morning with a really painful neck - when i try to look right it feels as if i'm squishing a nerve or something.

long story short i rang NHS direct to see if a trip to the GP was in order and was basically told to rest and take paracetamol....which is all well and good, but my neck is still painful as.

So, has anyone got any tips on what I should be doing to help my recovery along?

don't take paracetemol, take ibuprofen. the pain will be from tension and poss inflammation in the neck muscles, which will be relieved by ibuprofen. meanwhile the ibuprofen should relieve the pain too.

i would suggest some ibeleive gel, rub it into the affected area and it will make it go numb. Within a few days the pain is gone. The problem with neck pain is you compensate so it doesnt hurt and you make the injury last longer or cause problems elsewhere. So its best to get rid of the pain and use your neck normal.

A pain in the neck's gotta be better than a pain in the arse though eh?

If you/your parents have a wheat bag, stick this in the microwave and rest it on your neck. I love those things.

yeah, i was thinking ibuprofen would be better but the nurse i spoke to was uberkeen on paracetamol.

she said it was caused by bad posture and as it occured during the night and I woke up with it, it might be because i sleep on my stomach ? :frown:

hope this gets better soon or work this evening is gonna be a whole bundle of fun...
