well mate, owens is in a much nicer area for a start; potters bar vs downtown edmonton
the place is much nicer and it just seemed friendlier to me rather than latymer which was a bit too detached.
Owens is more suited to you as you are clearly a science student and owens is a sciecne specialist whereas latymer is an Arts specialist.
Owens is techincally classed as a comprehensive so you can go to the special summer schools that are only available for state comprehensive students if you so wish
Academically speaking, the difference is minimal (only 30 points in it) and the cliching factor is that the extra curric in owens is so much more varied and more of it which if you want to go for medicine/oxbridge is crucial.
Thats my two cents.

EDIT: 5 a levels for oxbridge is SO much better than 4. especially cambridge where its preferred according to their prospectus and that 5th would be a contrasting subject which is useful for unis like UCL

I'm accepting Latymer! I was so happy to receive my acceptance in the post..I applied as a fluke, never thought
I'd get in...
It depends really, because I had this same difficult decision regarding St Michael's in North Finchley and Woodhouse College in Friern Barnet, but once I got this offer, both schools were out of my mind haha!
Do you want a sociable atmosphere...or can you wait until Uni? & Anyway I'm sure Latymer is pretty sociable also!
I know how hard it is gunna be for you so good luck! Whichever decision you make it will be a good one
P.S. How did you find the test?

listen m8. dame alice may be a nicer place and a bit more civilised, but i go to latymer and their education would devour dame alice's education. Latymer maybe in a rougher area but nothing ever happens! Just dont take shortcuts or go down the quiet roads in edmonton. and believe me, even though u may have less to do in latymer, u could get like 4 A*'s at latymer
or get 5 B*'s and A's! Ure choice.......

Basically i got accepted to both dame alice owens and latymer 6th form and I am uncertain about which to choose. I will be studying Maths, FM, chem and bio at both but at owens i would also study RS. Anyone that goes (or used to go) to any of these schools; your opinions would be greatly appreciated! I understand that owens is more of a socable 6th form but that latymer is more academical and therefore has an effect on the 'type' of people that go there.

hey hey, what grades did you get/predicted to get accepted?
Thanks

I go to Dame Alice Owen's and my best friend goes to Latymer. At primary school she was a million times more intelligent than me, but since going to Owen's my grades have blown hers out of the water. Literally. i would say from an education point of view, Latymer is good with students who are willing to work really really hard on their own, but the struggle immensely with a bit of rebellion. Having said that, the sixth form experience at Owen's is not grate. I wanted to leave at the end of year 11 but nowhere did my course. There seems to be a 'bubble society' and it is not very good if you are wanting to go out a lot because many of the students life in the countryside and don't travel into London very often. - Which is really frustrating for us students from London. Hope this helps you make an informed decision.

Our son went to Latymer and absolutely loved it.. The area is a bit dodgy but the school itself is excellent and I would recommend it
