you should join the Monster Raving loony Party ... a 99p coin is one of their campaign policies!

Would be very helpful esp as a lot of things are priced 3.99 or 4.99 & so on...

Reply 3

in that case everything that's X.99's gonna drop to X.98...
the pennies will never stop coming...

I think its a good idea, will hopefully get rid of all the useless 1p/2p coins that seem to be collected.

99p coin is a good idead BUT just think of all those sad and lonely 1p coins, they might feel unwanted :bawling:

wev gotta make sacrifices :frown:

But then the shops will make everything £4.98

The reason things are charged at 99p is a security one - it means that a shop assistant has to open the till to give 1p change, rather than just being able to pocket a £1 coin ... If they introduced a 99p coin then shops would just change things to 98p, so that shops can keep a track of what is sold.

when i was out driving the other day i had the radio on.... and it was saying 3 our of 4 shoppers would favour a 99p coin to save ont eh change..... i think the royal mint should listen to the public. or just to get shops to increase their prices by 1 penny so that items are actually nice numbers

Reply 11

The reason everything is £1.99, £2.99 etc is to give a reason for the cashier to open the till and give you change, making them less likely to pocket the money.

a lot of things are still X.98 or X.95

Reply 13

Whatever, I would rather prefer the price of an x.99 to be y.00 because waiting for that 1 p makes me feel quite odd... especially when at Sainsbury, there would be a huge queue behind you!

Run... Don't Walk from.. THE PENNIES! You can never escape! *hides*

Reply 15

surely that would only work if you bought things one at a time.... what do you get if you add 4.99 with 5.99 with 6.99????? What do you do then? Panic?!!

Reply 16

I think people whom are in favor of a 99p coin in this thread, are just so due to there inability to add and do sums when paying at the counter.

You all need to stop and think, what the implications may be due to the introduction of a 99p coin. It would make some impact on the economy for one.
