Can I and should I sue AQA ??

Hi
As soon as i got my alevel results my teachers and i both knew that there was a mistake in my results sheet
i got...
MAM1 87
MAME 97
MAP1 92
MAP2 87
MAP3 13
MAS1 85
which totalled up to a B
I wanted to go to kings (thru clearing) but they wanted an A in maths :frown: !
and i assured them it will be corrected to an A and my teacher wrote an email and spoke to them but with no avail. and 2day i basically found out that the 13 should be 96 ( how did they make a mistake like that  )
and now there are no spaces left at kings !
i have got a uni place at cass and am hapy with with but do u think i should get some compensations from AQA or somin?
thanks
Sumit

Well if I had lost a place at VetSchool through the error of my exam board i'd be suing their asses off. :p:
But its likely that there is some 'get out' clause somewhere :frown:

I would be going mad! I cant believe they did that! You should do something because it could affect your earning potential in the future depending on what occupation you are going into! Good luck at Cass. My partner has just finsihed the same degree you will be starting x

I would definitely get legal advice or something. That's just unfair! Good luck anyway,

i feel so sorry for you - you've worked so hard - yet the results board has put you down

Same kinda thing happened to a mate of my sister
Edexcel refused to release his maths grade
And he missed matriculation :frown:

Not much you can do really. Yes you could file for legal action, but the fees will cost much more than the potential payout!

Reply 11

If you're happy with your course at the moment there's no point really, you probably wouldn't get much anyway. If it were me though I would ask for a written apology from AQA.

Reply 12

Just put it behind you. You won't get anything as mistakes can happen.

Reply 13

I'm no lawyer... but yes.

dude dont go to kings, we chat next time on msn yeh?- its Rob by the way

At a guess id say its unlikely you could go down the legal claims route, as surely everyone who ever had a remark of a paper could potentially sue them also!! But what happened to you is well out of order so id suggest you ring/email/write them a letter, asking them for a full explanation of their inability to count and how they plan to compensate you for the loss of your place at Kings. Id tell them that if they fail to do so you will have no problem in telling The Sun, Mirror, Mail, Times....etc about their complete incompetentcy as an exam board, backing up recent press, and that you'll get everyone on TSR to back you up hehe!

Ah I think lessthanthree picked up on what we may all have missed

If you applied through Clearing then you unfortunately have less than 0 case :frown: - you had no place to start with

There are two things, both of which I would imagine are feasible, that I would try to do in your position;
+ Contact your solicitors, and try to claim under AQA's Professional Indemnity insurance. It's likely, due to the glaring error in your results, that they will have little defence if your solicitors contact them immediately, and under the Woolfe Protocols, their insurers need to respond within a set period (think it's 90 days). If you want to re-apply to Kings next year, this is the route I'd take, and fall back on a common lawsuit if it fails.
+ The problem with a common lawsuit is that your costs will only be reimbursed, if you are successful, if they exceed £5000. This is unlikely, and it may be a better option to claim against them, because, if successful, they will pay your fees irrelevant of the cost.

A newspaper wouldn't be interested, IMO - there's no shock or conspiracy, and tales of injustice, unless there is some ulterior motive in AQA's actions, are unlikely to be reported. You could try, but there's no immoral cause that the tabloids could pursue - it's just a typo. Unfortunate consequences, but a typo nevertheless.

Good luck in whatever you choose to do, and I'm sure it'll turn out for the best.
