Oh ffs I clicked DUP instead of UUP. I am now officially a raving Paisleyite. Not that UUP have any chance against the apparent tendency towards extremism in Ulster today - Paisley is grabbing the votes while those who are actually prepared to sit down and talk sensibly with Sinn Feín are losing them, probably because they are prepared to debate.

I would void my vote, as I did in the last election.
Bit of a waste of time going down to the polling station, surely?

Why? Your vote counts towards turnout and it demonstrates approval of our democratic ideals, and at the same time a discontent towards the political parties that are supposed to represent us. I'd do the same if I didn't love "our Tony" so much.

Conservative - mainly because the thought of DD leading them makes them a much more attractive party.

I've noticed your election excluded RESPECT, well done but hardly fair :P Heres a list of left wing partys so you may admire the unfortunate lack of unity of the left.

    Socialist Party (included, well done!)
Socialist Party of Great Britain (dinosaurs)
    Socialist Labour Party
    Socialist Workers' Party (RESPECT)
    Communist Party
    Communist Party of Great Britain

There are more although these are the ones more well known and more likely to stand in elections.

May I add there is a Scottish Socialist Party which though linked to the Socialist Party through the CWI international. Is a seperate party.

I thought that too, but I think I have seen some seats, particually in the Glasgow constituencies, there doesn't seem to be any Tory MP's standing in most.
There aren't any Conservative MPs in Glasgow, and haven't been since 1982. But they do stand in the Glasgow seats and they do save their deposits. Its just that they don't do much campaigning, since only some sort of electoral tsunami would return anything but a Labour MP in Glasgow.

In my opinion, the Tories should cut their losses and drop at least 80% of Scottish candidates. Channel the funding into winning English seats, particularly in the north and London, where Labour have been successful.
I'm not sure. The Conservatives save their deposits in practically all Scottish seats, and there are a good few that they have a decent chance of winning or coming close. In the event of a Conservative revival in Scotland, there will be more seats there that they can hope to win. In any case, they focus their money on seats that they can hope to win up here.

Unless they calculate turnout from the people taking voting slips, they dont count toward turnout, as during counting there was a big bin you had to put them into.

And if you feel so strongly against democratic ideals, what do you propose?

Sounds like Stoke-on-Trent where I live.

    Vote Labour, complain about Labour.

They do count towards turnout. They're kept along with all the other ballots and are examined to ensure that they've been correctly separated, and are added to the overall turnout totals by the returning officer.

Immigration - There has been a big increase in migrants who have been working legally in the UK and paying taxes. 600,000 vacancies in the UK job market remain. These workers are running our hospitals, hotels, restaurants...
Furthermore, Labour are removing a far greater proportion of illegal immigrants than the Tories did. In 1996, the number of removals was equivalent to only 20 per cent of unsuccessful claims. Now its over 43%.

Education - New schools being built, I know because theres at least one local to me. Exam results improving year on year. 25% of school leavers now do apprenticeships, and loads more are going to university. There are more teachers in schools than at any point in the last 20 years – 28,000 more than in 1997. Over the next 10-15 years, every secondary school will be rebuilt or refurbished, this has already started.

    Crime
    - The chance of being a victim of crime is at its lowest for 20 years, and crime has fallen by 30% overall since 1997.
Numbers of police have never been so high before in UK history, and are increasing year on year...

    Terrorism
Labour was the only party who supported bringing in the anti terror legislation before summer recess, now after 7/7, all the other parties support it. Even the group Liberty support the government.

Immigration - Firstly we are taking away professional doctors, nurses etc from poor developing countries where they are needed while medical graduates and nurses from this country can't get a job.
I do not believe that this government is removing more asylum seekers than the last government.
When are all these going to be removed or sorted out?
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4637273.stm
Asylum and immigration is utter chaos, this government will lie through their teeth but it all comes back back to them.

Education - It's true more people are passing exams but....
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/3662252.stm Truancy UP
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4183180.stm - Language education currently being destroyed by this government.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4162230.stm - Science subjects on the decline. Media Studies up.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/4182006.stm GCSE pass rate up again all thanks to the GNVQ's that have been on the rise for years. Well done Labour, education is your top priority!

Crime - I do not believe a word the government says when overall crime has fell. More like the overall crime rate has fell due to elss people reporting incidents. I know many people who suffer at the hands of criminals because they're too scared to report it to the police. Our justice system makes me sick. You're more likely to be jailed for not paying your council tax than killing and raping a 2 year old girl.
Lots of crime is on the up such as Violent crime http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/4198690.stm
Alcohol related crime is also on the up.... you must be kidding to patonise me and tell me that crime is falling. Are you in the real world?

More Police, maybe, more like more community wardens who cannot arrest who also don't put petty crime in their note books such as fighting other children, graffiti, smashing bottles etc.

Terrorism..... they are VERY slow indeed to root out preachers of hate, but they're quick enought to send down any BNP supporters/members of racism.
Where is the fairness in that?
This country good under Labour is it?
