Well, I've just found out that some bands are playing at a pub down the road tonight, and one of them was supporting The Strokes when I saw them last week. So I'm off to see Johnny 4, The Ridgeways and The Exits in about 20 minutes.

    Adios!

Haha I don't really know them either, and I doubt they'll ever be household names. Ah well, should be fun (I'll take a camera :p: )

Went to see the Walkmen at the London Scala. It had been a while since I'd seen a concert with a band that wasn't totally unknown here in the UK. I didn't really know that much about them. I've listened to Bows + Arrows a few times and considering the hype about them being one of the bigger NY rock bands, I thought I should try them out.

The first supporting act was rather dire with a name like "Something house" and with songs about adders and covers of Mariah Carey songs. The second supporting act was a young indie/punk band, not too unlike the Automatic or even Bloc Party. Despite not knowing any of their songs, the riffs came out pretty clear and catchy and the crowd seemed to like them.

As for the Walkmen, they were as I expected: way too loud. I could only just hear the lyrics on the few songs I knew like The Rat and What's In It For Me. The rest of the time he just screeches but not even in a way that you can actually hear the singing. Having read concert reviews, this is apparently typical of their concerts. Still quite a decent experience.

And wait for the cheesy moment: in the middle of their set, some American guy got called on stage with his girlfriend, mentioned something about having already been to a Walkmen concert a year ago and his girlfriend saying it was the best concert ever. So he got on one knee and proposed to her and the whole crowd cheered.
