Note : This thread is a discussion about the EDEXCEL Unit 6 alternative to practical paper available to international centers.

So, May 14th... Who's taking it?

*raises hand*

Which questions do you think are most likely to show up?

If you want to practice on some sample assessment papers :

http://www.edexcel.com/migrationdocu...ative-SAMs.pdf

Good luck
Lets get this thread going!

Me!

Kinda confident... except for preparations, purification techniques (things like recrystallisation etc) and Unit 5 organic stuff! I have some days in next week to catch up

What do we have to revise for it? Do we need to know all the experiments we've done in AS and A2 (eg the entropy ones and all that) or is it just basic experimental techniques?

The specification has it all.

Basically, there are 4 parts to Chem 6.

Part A is about Chemistry 1 and 2. So qualitative analysis of group 1,2 and 7 ions might come up.

Part B is something to do with Redox or Transition metals or qualitative analysis of organic products.

Part C is either titration to find the Ka of an Acid, the rate of reaction, a Potassium Manganate (VII) titration or finding out the activation energy of a reaction

Part D is synthesis (ie, steps to make asprin or an ester or a complex transition metal salt ).

Check the specification for more details

This is so wrong, I haven't done anything. Our practical teacher just sits there and does nothing and gives us the wrong info.
With only three days left, how can I possibly prepare everything?? :dontknow:
In organic, are preparations coming? With all the reagents and conditions and stuff because they are there in the past papers which are sort of invalid to the new format...

And, as in past papers, enthalpy change calculations aren't included right? Because they aren't even in the syllabus anymore for A2...

AJ, that's the spec for the ACTUAL practicals that are done at local centers in the UK (Unit 6A).

We are doing Unit 6B, the written alternative to practicals. You will NOT find any info on this unit in the main spec. This is the spec. for Unit 6B (OUR UNIT).

http://www.edexcel.com/migrationdocu...-Chemistry.pdf

That being said, it is quite possible for topics mentioned by Ajes to show up.

In addition, I have kindly compiled a semi-revision pack for this unit because I love TSR so much

Here it is:

GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Go through the Sample Assessment material (refer back to the thread starting post).

Should give you a good idea of what to expect.
