Maths Edexcel Results!

Hi everyone!

Just wana say well done and I hope you all got the grades u deserve!
I no theres alot of people out there who have given me advise over the last few months bout the exams so thankyou very much!

Anyway I have yet another question! (Sorry)

Not trying to be big headed in anyway but i'm really unsure about how this works so I was hopeing someone could explain it please.

Ok I took the higher tier Edexcel Maths papers. Ive looked at the Edexcel website and it says that,

A* on paper 1 = 75%
A* on paper 2 = 83% - So tht gives an average of about 79% for an A* yes?

Now my certificate says that for the coursework I scored 104/120 (which is a UMS mark totalling - 86.7778%). It also says for my exam mark (for the two papers combined is 416/480 - which is also 86.7778%).

However I have been given an "A" grade, rather than an "A*".

I am sure that there is a simple explanation to this and just something im missing, but i am interested to understand how that works so if someone could explain it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Davror

UMS Percentages, I don't think proportionally reflect raw percentages.

Reply 2

Ok - can anyone out there solve this?

Teachers are (generally) really good at explaining all this mumbo-jumbo about coursework and UMS and raw thingymajigs .

Yeh thats the same as me... i got 110/120 ums marks for coursework and 418/480 for the exams... i got an A grade too!

Look at the back of the paper with the results- for papers which are out of 480 (Maths) you need 432/480 for the A*. I got 426 and got also got an A

Reply 6

yeh ingore that lill bit you needed 540 UMS for A* 480 for A, i'm gettin mine remarked as i got 537 UMS, petty i know as i have an A, but i was in Set1 and my teach will prob encourage me to do it

Reply 7

it worked out on average if you read the thing 108/120 coursework and 432/480 on the papers i got 100 and 437

this really clever kid only got an a in maths edexcel in my school.. which was a bit of a shock
did ANYONE get an a*....?!

Reply 9

I got a B in edexcel maths, totally insane because I'm no good at maths, ((counts on fingers!) I think I got 102/120 for coursework.. and 350/480.

go ont the edexcel website and look for the maths governors report and they'll have all on the grade boudaries including coursework etc.

heres the link: Maths (linear)

and another: Maths (modular)

What's up with Edexcel only giving the specifics for the Maths exam and nothing else? Also, do I simply ask my school for the raw/UMS grades as I might remark my suspect B BS grade?

Quite a few people in the first set at my school didn't get the A* which is weird, because they're all mathematical geniuses! There's something funny going on.

I think I understand now, thanks for your help peeps!

i got an a*, i got 100/120 for coursework, and 474/480 for the exams, quite a few people from my school got an a*, but not as many as i would have expected
