Question about various colleges! Please LOOK!!!

Hey,

I was just wondering about the following colleges...

St Chad's, St John's, Hatfield and St Hild and Bede

Do you have to share rooms at these colleges?
Anyone here go to these colleges?
What are the pros and cons of each of them?

Cheers!

Dan

What an interesting time to post a question...

I don't know much about the other 3, but I can tell you a few things about John's.

1. 2/3 share rooms, but if you're adamant about not sharing it, you can usually get a single by giving a decent reason

pro: location near durham city, near cathedral, near castle, near law/history departments, best food in the university, small/tight community, best/one of the best bars, old/historical college

con: far from science sites, might have to share, small (if it's a con for you), small gym, few organized entertainment events

None of them are Grey College. :frown:
That because Grey college has this motto "Don't be dull, be Grey!".

Whats Grey college like? Is it really modern, cos I'd prefer an older college!

Built in the 1960s, I think.
Grey college is built out of recycled plinths, fact fans!

I was going to apply to Hatfield, but ended up applying for Trevelyan - cos there's grass and it's a dodgy shape. I like dodgy.

Hatfield - stereotypically the 'rah', sporty college. Second oldest college. Old buildings, might have to live across the river in Plamers' Garth.

I'm going to interject another question of my own here, how far from the rest of Hatfield is this Palmer's Garth?

Well, I don't know if you've ever visited Durham, but Hatfield is on the Bailey, by the Castle in the town centre and to get to Palmer's Garth you have to cross the river - it's opposite the Union. It's about a 3-5 minute walk so not too far, but I wouldn't fancy that on a winter's morning.
EDIT: tried to upload an awesome map that I drew on paint, but it was too big! :frown:

Hehe, nevermind about the map!

Ack, I wish I'd known of this before I sent off my forms... being an international I refused to move my stuff for Christmas and Easter and opted for the 38 week term option and I have a sinking feeling that I might end up in Palmer's, since it's bound to be less popular for tourists... Ah well, it's not so terrible I s'pose...

Oh, I'm sure it will be fine. I don't know what the Palmer's Garth rooms look like though, so I can't help you in that regard. You'll have to wait for Kathryn or Judith to come online.

And my map was so good. I wanted it to be uploaded. :bawling:

Use mine..... :p:

Hrm, since Durham is so small anyway it probably won't matter that much.

Oh god it's next to the prison. o_____________O

Purely out of interest, what is the typical break-out rate and are murderers and sex offenders locked up in that prison?

Wow, nice map dobbs. Becca, are you trying to upload a .bmp?

Gah, I just hope that my parents never find out where Palmer's Garth is if I end up there... God knows what they would do

Here we go. If you want to see my map that is a zillion times better than Kev's then CLICK HERE!!!!!

Btw, the blue building is Hatfield - when the site shrunk the pic it blurred the writing. :frown:
If you pass it to me I'll see if I can compress it properly... without wiping out Hatfield.
