Everyone at my high school did 10, I did 11 because i chose to stay after school to do a french GCSE as an extra. (:

At the school I work, the average/standard amount is 9 GCSEs. I did 13, but I did two or three earlier than GCSE year.

at my school 10 and a half (1/2 was short course RS) was norm at my school.. but i did 7.

Reply 23

I did 14. But I'd say 10 is "normal". About 8 is average I think.

Reply 24

I did 10, which is roughly what most people in my school did. 12 is about the maximum you could do in my school.

Reply 25

I did 10. Got 10.

people tend to do between 9 to 13 based on the school. I assure you irrespective of the numbers - what will count when you start applying for unis is how many A* or A you get. So quality counts and not quantity. In our school almost 10% of the kids have 11 A* + while 90% of the kids have 11 As or better. :o:

At my school you only got to do 8.5 GCSEs.
If you were smart you could apply for Twilight courses at other schools which you may or may not have been accepted for.
I did 10.

They now do 10 as standard at that school. Annoying that they do Statistics and I didn't - an eaassy extra GCSE, one piece of coursework that you already have to do for Maths anyway and just double enter and then one extra exam. I would have aced that with no extra work. ¬¬

dont worry!

Universities are meant to only count your first 8 when considering applications because not every school offers more than that amount (i'm not sure if they stick to this but i know for medicine they're not allowed to ask for more than 8 A*'s)

At my school my year does 15 but younger years will end up with above that.. it's ridiculous!

I did ten, I guess that's about average.

Basic one at my school is
Maths
Double Science
English Lit
English Lang
RE (short)
4 choices.

So in theory, you get 9.5 GCSEs

I guess it all depends on how many you're taking.
Besides, in most sixth forms I know of you only need at least 5 A*-C grades to get in, which IMO isn't much at all. Colleges require less, depending on the subject and whether you're taking A Levels there or not.

You'll be fine.

My school offered 9.

Reply 33

Around 8-11. I'm doing 11 + Add Maths FSMQ.

Reply 34

I think the average is 9-12.

I'm doing 13 - Triple Science, English Language, English Literature, Maths, Geography, History, RS, Latin, Russian and ICT. And then I'm doing Additional Maths FSMQ on top of that.

Reply 35

10. I have 11, but that's because of the science thing

Reply 36

10 is fine.

Reply 37

I did 12, including Triple Science, so I got three GCSEs for that whereas most people at my school only did Double Science. My dad thought 12 was too much, especially since I didn't get as much A grades as I wanted, but oh well.

Reply 38

9-11 ( i started out doing doing 12 but i dropped media studies in the last couple of months because they effed up by making us do the wrong coursework and i couldn't be bothered to start all over again before my exams.)

Ah, that's exactly what I'm doing (although I'm almost sure I'm gonna fail the FSMQ)

And yeah, I realised that most of the people I asked are either doing triple science (whereas I'm doing double) or have got other GCSEs outside of school...
Thanks guys
