Skydiving. Recommended. Highly!

Don't join too many. If you have the willpower, don't join any on the 1st day - they'll still be there the following day once you've slept on the idea. only exception are the ones that run training courses or stuff like that (with limited places) - what they're offering is normally a good deal and you might was well get the dates you want.

expeditions
mountaineering
skydiviving
ballroom dancing
combat karate
economics
....is what i joined in my 1st year. I ended up only going to one after the first few weeks!

Sky diving sounds interesting, and I want to start a juggling club if there isn't one (incorporating diablo and devil sticks etc) I also want to take up a martial art but the society i'm most looking forward to joining has to be the Japanese society; anime and sushi! Can't go wrong. (I'm not Japanese incidentally).

There's also the Poker, Debating, Aerospace, CU and Rag societies... I'm going to be the personification of what they repeatedly tell you not to do when joining up :P No free time for me!

There is 'circus soc'. they do juggling, diablo, poi (sp?), unicycling etc etc. Anything like that's their bag. Apparently they're a good bunch, I had a couple if mates on the committee a while back.

ah brilliant that saves me some trouble

Also, what does anyone know about Skiing at Bristol, are there uni trips/societies?

Kite surfing could be good too if there's a society, and waterskiing's always
fun.

Argh and I really really want to get into the air squadron, free flying lessons sounds good to me!

So much to do, so little time :frown:

Guys (and 'gals) - check the website! All the clubs/socs you mention exist!

sportier ones: http://www.bristolau.co.uk/
and the rest: http://www.ubu.org.uk/main/societies/societieslist

By the sounds of what you lot are into, it's not so much the lack of time generally you need to worry about...tbut he lack of WEEKENDS and money! Unless you want just a 'one off' experience most of the 'cool' ones are weekend activities...meaning you'll have to make a choice eventually as they're mututally exclusive - if you really want to get into them!

Ahhhhh to many choices! If i have to pick one it would def be the ski diving club, as i can surf anytime and ive got my own horse so i guess i can ride anytime too! Makes life a bit easier!

cool, I can't wait for the holidays, they went to Val D'Isere last year which is wicked. Also, want to see if I can get some cheap salomon skis with them. Do you ski a lot?
Reply 13
nahhh, just skydive! Funnily enough, a lot of our members also ski! A summer and a winter sport - perfect!
I'm going to join.... the chocolate society, the caving society, the musical society (see you at all of those, shelbycakes!!), the christian union, and... RockSoc. just a few to be getting on with then!

Debating; Music; Mooting, & Law Club.

That's me catered for; for the time-being at least.

I'll be joining flat caps and ferrets (northerners society). Even if I wasn't, the name alone would be reason enough to put on a broad yorkshire accent and sign up. Movida Latina, too as it's educational.

Poksoc's (the poker society) pretty cool. They run hold'em tournaments every couple of weeks or so. £5 buy-in, multiple re-buys the first hour, top five places (ish) pay. They also organise teams out to other uni's events. Check out www.poksoc.com

Nice one, not sure I like the idea of re-buys mind, means people with more money can play more recklessly.
Obviously i'll still be joining anyhow  , infact in 5 minutes i'm off to play with some mates, best to get the practice in

Most tournaments in most casinos have some sort of rebuy system. It's only the big games (WPT, EPT, etc) that hold freeze-out tourneys. If you're a good player, you don't need them, and it's more easy money for you to get hold of
