Hmm.. this is one part of bristols bus's im not that familiar with..
well a short away from Colston hall are bus stations.. easy enough to find.. look for one that goes to the Bristol bus station. Which isnt that far away anyway so you could walk it. (google maps ; Colston Hall > Bristol bus station) .. is a short walk

Never gone to airport like this before but..
    http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/sout...or=3&source=sp
.. shows a bus/coach numbered A1 going from bus station to airport pretty regularly

Chepest advice? .. get info from bus station on whether you'll need an 'All day south west' or 'all day bristol' ticket.. the second is cheapest but not sure how far out it stretches, only around 5-7 quid anyway :P

This is my view.. by no means the expert but ya know.xD

Correct me if im wrong but isnt colton hall very close to bristol bus station, there is the bristol airport flyer that runs every 20 minutes from the bus station, makes a quick stop at temple meads, then goes to the airport, it takes around half an hour to 40 minutes depending on traffic, and is £5 for a student single

Do you know whether you have to book the ticket or you can just get it on the spot in the bus?

You can get it on the bus but make sure to have the correct change because the bus drivers seem to be quite bad for not having any change.
