I did BTEC First Diploma Travel and Tourism - got a Distinction* :smile:

OK enough of me rubbing it in, the course overall is not that hard. Just work hard, don't mess about all year...

It is a 1 year full time course, you need to complete 6 units overall.

1) Business of Travel and Tourism
2) Marketing in Travel and Tourism
3) Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
4) UK Destinations
5) Planning Visits
6) An Introduction to the Travel and Tourism Industry

After you completed all of these 6 units you will have the option to either look for work or study BTEC National Diploma Travel and Tourism Level 3 (what I'm studying now) :smile: , where after, you can go to university - like me. :wink:

No not all. I live in Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University (for people with A-C GCSE grades), University of Sheffield (for people with A levels) does Travel and Tourism. Nottingham Trent University doesn't.

Where do you live by the way, both of my friends volunteered to introduce the course to some Year 10s and Year 11s from different schools in Sheffield. By the way the induction was in Sheffield College.

There's a quite a few universities that do Travel and Tourism, but unfortunately for you, Kent doesn't do travel and tourism. :no:

* University College Birmingham (where I study the travel and tourism diploma)
* University of Bedfordshire
* Bristol
* Derby
* Buckinghamshire New University
* Manchester Metropolitan

There are so many universities that do travel and tourism go on the UCAS website, go on "Course Search" and then go on "For Home and EU Applicants" and click on "Search" twice.

Personally I would go to University College Birmingham to study travel and tourism. I'm studying the Level 2 diploma version there and all the facilities are great. Most of my classmates are going to continue their studies (in travel and tourism of course) here.

Oh and just so you know BTEC First Diploma doesn't directly lead you straight to university you would also need to do BTEC National Diploma to go to university providing you get a distinction from the First Diploma in lieu of 4/5 A-C grades. That's what I had to do and now I've got 4 conditional offers so far from 5 different universities. :smile:

The tourism industry covers both inbound and outbound tourism, and offers opportunities in many diverse areas, including airport operations and tour guiding. BTEC Level 2 First Certificate and Diploma in Travel and Tourism are designed to introduce learners to working in the sector or prepare them for further study, such as a BTEC National qualification or an appropriate NVQ.
