Sleeping Tablets

Are there any over the counter sleeping tablets that are stronger/more effective than Nytol one a nights? I really need something to just conk me out - I've tried Zopiclone before and found that quite helpful, but I'd rather see if there was something good that I could buy instead of bothering my GP about it.

I used tescos sleep aids, which might seem basic, but around exam time... they were a lifesaver... They aren't knock outers, but they do not leave me drowsy in the morning and manage to defeat my anxiety in exam periods! I would recommend them.

Why won't they precribe them? I do know that you can sometimes get them if you say you're in dire need...like, you get NO sllep a night. Or that you're an insomnia with mental health issues. A friend of mine did that (it was the case for her) and she was handed dozens of pills. And I had them all!

(I didn't steal! She gave them to me because she didn't like them)
I've never had sleeping pills. I don't know why but they scare me.

I can understand them scaring you....as in 'if I don't have them I'll never sleep!' I feel the same...I prefer natural remedies such as hot milk, lavender oil and all that but sometimes that doesn't work :frown:

Doctors only tend to prescribe sleeping pills if someone suffers from really bad insomnia, has been under a great deal of stress lately which is affecting their ability to sleep, has been through a traumatic event recently affecting their ability to sleep or is experiencing mental health issues.

Even then, they only tend to prescribe sleeping pills for a short term basis as prescribed sleeping pills are prone to being highly addictive.
When my nan was suffering from bad pains in her leg she was prescribed pills to help her sleep as she was up all night otherwise

i'm not sure if there are any more effective sleeping pills than nytol. I think they are the best, but if you are going to try some others out, avoid natrasleep tablets, they take ages to make you drowsy - so not good if you want to be knocked out!

Its vvvv rare that docs will prescribe BDZs like zopiclone for a period longer than 2 weeks, as they make you dependent on them to get to sleep.
sainsburys do some stress relief tablets which make me go to sleep..

I have been prescribed temazepam in the past but never for more than 7 days as you can become addicted to them and therefore dependent and it can lead to some nasty withdrawl issues..but they do work very well!!

The best natural remedy I have found is Nelsons Homeopathic Noctura. It leaves you with a bit of a headache in the morning but thats not true for everyone, but they do really help. You take 2, 4hrs before bed, and 2 on going to bed. They really helped me get to sleep and stay asleep.
I was on zopicolne for a while, lovely isn't it . helps get to sleep no matter whats going on around you
