Biology EPQ ideas please

Please suggest EPQ ideas for anything related with biology.. like something I can write/research a lot about, etc.

Ideas from any area of biology are welcome and I will give positive rep to the best ones  Thanks

but would prefer something to do with animals for some reason (am not doing veterinary science in the future but thought it would be a good topic so if anyone has animal based interesting ideas, please do say) Thanks

Stem cell research of some description? Lots to talk about there. I had a few ideas for mine before I chose my final one... invasive species' impacts on ecosystems, so like wolves in scotland potentially, zebra mussels, rabbits and foxes in australia...? Imitation eg. hoverflies?
hope it helps
clone something.
anything.

no essay involved, as you'd have a product

There's loads you can do about animals.

Evolution.
Animal behaviour.

Depends really, its really broad.

You need to do a mini-literature review to narrow down broader aspects of animal biology.

Hi, I was hoping to allow a broad range of ideas under the topic of "animals" so people can give me some ideas on different areas of it e.g. behaviour of animals, evolution of animals.. and then I could choose one of the ideas.. but if I had to say, I would say I am not too fond of doing anything based on evolution, biodiversity, natural selection, etc. as it's a bit dull...

Animal related (zoology) ideas please if possible but would like other ideas related to biology as well

What I tried to do was The Science of Laughter, which was sooo good. There's so much info about it and it's so interesting. But, basically, I ran out of time and didn't finish so it didn't get sent off... But that's besides the point!

What I really want to stress is to MAKE IT A SPECIFIC QUESTION which has a PROBLEM and a number of DIFFERENT SOLUTIONS. It really helps to have a clear structure (which mine definitely didn't!)

Hope this helps

Well, there is nothing much you can do on animals other than Evolution and Animal behaviour.

PLUS it is your project and it is up to you to do a mini-literature where you can record what you find in your activity log. EPQ is an 'independent research project' and we're only here to direct you not to do the research for you otherwise you can ask your mentor for help.

Just telling you the truth, your project, your grade. Just take in what others have commented.

I mentioned that I am not fond of the evolution idea but did not say that I didn't like the animal behaviours idea. Just want more ideas from a range of people before I decide.

Thanks to everyone who so far contributed helpful ideas

Hey! This is exactly what I want to do for my EPQ but, as you said, it's far too broad so I tried to somehow relate it to how it can be used as treatment for mild depression but I don't think there's enough academic literature for me to use. Do you have any ideas on how I could narrow it down? Thanks

Hiya,
I am looking to a biology based epq as well, so I am thinking around the area of mental health. Something along the lines of dementia or depression, which isn't so difficult to research far into!
Hi, I am also doing an epq on invasive species, I was wondering if I could read yours? Let me know and I can send an email address  it would be interesting to read yours, mine is a different title but still follows impacts on ecosystems

Hey! I did a project on 'How are Induced Pluripotent Stem cells developed, and will it be the best treatment for Parkinson's Disease?'

If you are interested in animals or evolution, here are some ideas I'm thinking of right now:

- To what extent is evolution ruled by chance, versus the necessity of convergence?
- To what extent is animal testing justifiable in scientific research?
- To what extent does epigenetics and the environment play a role in determining the behaviour of animals?
- Do anthropogenic pressures such as industrial pollution play a greater role in evolution when compared to natural selection pressures like competition?

Those are questions that I just thought of (though the questions probably aren't well-phrased for an EPQ title)

Is it possible if I could see your EPQ? Im struggling on how to structure mine and how much of what Im putting is relevant/irrelevant.

I did something similar to an EPQ that was only 4000 words. If you would like to see it, then private message me your email.
