Scars (reducing scarring)

Ok, so just had my impant out (lol this must be the third thread i've said that in) but i'm slightly worried about the scarring it maye leave (it seemed quite deep... )

The doctor sadi it depends on the individual and how well they heal and if they scar etc, but i know from prervious experience (i'm an ex self-harmer) that if its deep i can scar quite obviously. I've been told vitamin E lotion can reduce scarring does anyone know of anything else i can do to make it less obvious?
I've heard that Bio-Oil is meant to work wonders for scarring. I don't know personally though - this is just from what I've heard of customers' experiences (I work in a chemist).

You should ask your doctor about the huge range of skin creams, amde especially for this. Some of them you have to pay for, some of them are over the counter and some of them can be prescribed.

There's also some kind of laser treatment that you can get if the scar really bothers you.

And there's surgery if the scar is particularly bad... I was offered surgery by my doctor, free on the NHS. Doctors tend to do this if they think the scar could inhibit your quality of life in any way.

However, I'd just stick to the creams. There are some good ones, but I couldn't tell you which ones are which.
I work at a supermarket and the women that work at the cafe were provided with these gloves. If they ever got scarred then those gloves speeded up the healing process, they looked fairly expensive i think.

Hey,

If the scar's new, try using scar reduction pads (available from Elastoplast or Boots' own brand). They're really good. I used 'em on a burn scar, but according to the pharmacist they're supposed to work on other types as well. You can also get it in cream form.

Good luck!

I'd strongly recommend Palmers Cocoa Butter, available nice and cheap in Superdrug..massive bottle for 2.99!! If that doesn't work, try Bio-Oil which is about £8 but works pretty darn well from what I've heard.

you can get various scar reducing products in places like Boots etc now -particually scar reducing plasters. Also try buying vitamin e capsles and popping them, then massage them in - the massaging helps and the vit e promotes healing and reduce the severity of a scar (but taking vit e internally isn't a good idea coz it reduces clotting). You need to do this at an early stage.

There is laser treatment but that is expensive and i don't know if you'd really want to consider that unless it looked awful.
