Foundation year- failed one module?

Basically, my boyfriend is on a foundation year.
In the first semester he failed one module he struggles with but got good marks for the rest of the modules.
We're now in the second semester and he's still struggling with the subject a second time around but is expected to get good results in the others.
Would he be kicked out of uni if he failed one module? If not, what happens?
Considering the rest are good marks and there's a reason (not an excuse) as to why he struggles.

I am very worried for him.

He needs to speak to his tutor

The regulations for the course and uni will be different from every other course and uni - his tutor should know the rules and what marks he needs to pass the year and what impact failing a module has.

In fact that should have all been explained when he received his Semester 1 marks - if it wasn't and there's no way he could pass the year then he's just wasted 4 months in Semester 2.
