Can I be refused entry at midnight on my 18th birthday?

Basically, I'm 18 in a few weeks and want to go out clubbing with some friends.

Due to other plans for the rest of the weekend (family stuff!) I want to go out at midnight (as soon as I turn 18, basically :p:

) but I remember someone saying ages ago that clubs weren't allowed to let you in until the night of your actual birthday (as in, I'd turn 18 at midnight but not be allowed in till later on that night) and not the moment you turn 18.

I'm not sure though and can't make sense of the laws, so I was wondering if anyone on here could help?

Well they could make you wait til midnight, but give the bouncers a cheeky grin and I'm sure you'll be fine, play the go-on-its-my-birthday card.

I would have thought you would be able to be let in, as technically the date would have changed to your date of birth so you are drinking legally. But i don't know, just guessing!

As long as you are 18 years of age, they should let you in.

Well legally at midnight you are 18, you may have to remind the bouncers of the time/ date etc, but technically it should be fine, bouncers aren't always the most reasonable of people though.

If you go out celebrating your 18th, they tend to get the birthday idea. You'll get in.

im pretty sure they will let you in! my friend did that and we got there about 15 mins before midnight, they said she could go in now and pay or wait till midnight and then get in for free cos its her birthday :smile:

I did this; I was too drunk to remember what the bouncer said to me when I went in but my friend told me that he was joking around saying wait there for 10 seconds. It won't be a problem.

It depends on the bouncers really, you could have some really laid back bouncer let you in, whereas another would claim the club night is applicable to the previous days date and tell you to go away. It would also help if you were only sober/tipsy as being drunk isn't going to help your case when trying to persuade entry.

Bouncers aren't reasonable people, seeing as you're female though you'd probably get away with it.

They can refuse you entry if they like for whatever reason they have, seemingly fair or not. Just because you're turning eighteen doesn't mean they couldn't refuse you entry.

But what I think you're getting at is whether you'd be allowed in due to age at midnight on your birthday. They should do, but if you're that worried you can just phone the club/pub up and ask.

Yes, but not for being underage.

I did the same thing and it was fine, in fact I went into a pub (that IDed on the door) earlier in the evening and they didn't properly look at the date and let me in. You are seriously over-thinking it.

You can be refused
An observer (police etc) has no way of knowing whether you were let in legally after 12, or illegally beforehand so some clubs err on the side of caution and would stop you

I imagine at least one club would let you in though :p:

ahh this sounds like a fun idea!! i turn 18 on midnight of sunday so not a great night to be going out anyway. happy biirthday tho op :smile:

i thought most places won't let you in till your actual birthday, because technically at midnight on the day of your birth you weren't born yet (i heard some places won't let you in till the day after).
