I'm going to be the bearer of bad news and tell people going Cov Uni that you will get bored in Coventry, simply for the fact the city doesn't have anything going for it. The nightlife here is an absolute embarassment. Considering the city's size you'd expect better but it's a joke.

Lava/Ignite aka Ikon/Diva is for the cheese and R&B lovers you can get in any city, Colosseum for the Indie lot, Dog and Trumpet for the freaks and outcasts, Dogma for those with some cash (they have Breakbeat and House in there so it's not that bad), Careys for House music lovers/posers and Release for Hip Hop/R&B/Dancehall/etc. You have more places like Jailhouse (live music), Jumping Jacks (pulling your mate's mum), etc but really ain't worth mentioning. At least with Cov there's enough roads to get out, and you can get to Warwick Uni, Leamington, Birmingham, Leicester, etc really easily and quickly but otherwise nightlife is just standard chain bars like Wetherspoons, Yates's, etc and rubbish clubs (mentioned above).

Can't really say much more about Coventry. The city centre looks like a concrete Blade Runner set in Kosovo sometimes and the local radio stations are still crap 20 years later. Memorial Park is nice I guess and the taxis are cheap(er) then other big cities... oh yeah and the Coventry Cathedral is quality, has to be visited by absolutely everybody. Some of the city centre is being done up and looks proper slick like the bit where the Transport Museum is, plus it's getting some new hardcore restaurant where the old fire station is. More bars are getting opened up as well last time I checked. No complaints from all my mates either who stayed home about Cov Uni itself so you'll definitely enjoy it. Just can't recommend the city or it's nightlife too much, but this is one man's opinion. You'll probably go and it be the complete opposite of what I've rambled about. Explore the place is all I can really say. Sorry to piss on everyone's bonfire

hi there, i'm not so much a clubs man and just wondered what it has in the way of pubs and sports bars?? much luck there??

thx

Alright mate, if you're after bars and pubs rather than clubs then Cov would probably be more suited to ya. You've got more and more swanky places like The Tin Angel, The Glasshouse, Dogma, Prague, Inspires, etc making an impact as well as other chain bars like Wetherspoons, Yate's, Lloyds No.1, Litten Tree, etc out and about. Varsity run some half decent student discounts with a slick balcony and The Courtyard last time I checked was pretty cheap. You've got some places like Prague that try too hard to be trendy and in Browns's case being completely arsey at the door.

Sports bars? Not that I know of. If you mean places like Walkabout then Cov doesn't have that. Someone else from Cov would need ot come in and mention any sports bars.

Loads of proper pubs dotted around the city, just need to find yours. Wouldn't recommend Rose and Woodbine for example... just wouldn't. The further out of town the better they seem to get in my opinion

If you want to know more of what out there I'd recommend http://www.knowhere.co.uk/428.html and http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/results.shtml/el/Coventry%3BWest+Midlands/page/1/
Some of the info on Knowhere is pretty old but pretty much sums up the local's perspective of Cov. The websites would probably explain everything more and better then I have

Hope you enjoy yourself
Thats a bummer...I shouldn't be reading this got revision to do. Look forward to finding a possitive post on here  Better to have it as it is though. Might start investing the worlds largest board game collection at this rate. lol nothing beats a game of monopoly on a friday night when the rest of the student population are out clubbing

And what are Coventries views on parties in halls of residence lol...Party at mine.

Just been having a quick read through what I can find for Coventry, sounds ideal for me. If I go out it will only be for meal/pubs... ...I haven't been clubbing for a while and probably wont start again, just doen't suit me. I paid up my deposit for Singer a few months ago, so that's all sorted, and shall be taking my car so I can get out to gigs and stuff when my fave bands are playing  And to get away to my monthly car meet, so my social stuff is already sorted

I suppose most importantly to me, they gave me a place and it will give me an oportunity to get into a new part of my life. So here's to hoping it's the right environment to get my head down and get a good degree

Dead Fish >> Nought wrong with board games, you bring monopoly I'll bring twister :P
hmmm id say im abit bias cuz im from leam and go to cov afair bit,

cov is good, i wouldn't want to go to uni there, theres plenty there but not that much choice if you know what i mean, seems pretty cheap

as for leam its a lovely small town but not as a student id hate the idea of spending 3 years there as a student, only 4nightclubs (2 are so crap its unreal noone goes there), few trendy bars and a scream pub, afew shops not lots, keep you entertained for afew hours, leams a very trendy 25age place everyone knows everyone, mainly locals

cov/leam are nice but not for students in my opinion but its horses for course at the end of the day

"At least with Cov there's enough roads to get out"

Haha, brilliant.

I went the open day today for the 2007 entry next year. It is also my 'insurance' university if i fail to acheive the grades needed to get into Manchester University proper. It looked ok today and i saw all the clubs you mentioned...guess that's it then.

Then again, i'm not expecting Ibiza.

Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of transferring from Durham to Cov for this year and i'm really looking forward to it. It's got to have more going on than Durham, which is tiny!
I was just wondering if any of you who are going this year are mature students? I'm 23 and scared of feeing like an old man!
Also, are any of you interested in American football? There is a great team in Coventry who i'm looking to join (one of the deciding factors of picking Cov!) and i'm sure they'll be pleased with more new players.
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Mark

Don't worry, I'm sure there are lots of mature students that are going there. For example, I'm 21. But I don't think that really matters... At least it doesn't to me. And if anyone plays or knows of a place where you can play floorball it'd be great to know.. If anyone knows what floorball even is..

I have some friends that went to Durham, they said similar things, and yeah I'll be a mature student, I'm 24 at the moment.
