That's quite alright, any time

I'm in Priory and I love it here. It's really central to both the town centre and the Uni buildings. It's bigger, so more money is put towards it, and it's got a basement and other facilities Quadrant doesn't have. I have a mate in Quadrant, and I like my room better
I'm a first year at the moment.

it sounds nice!
can u tell me more about Priory?i heard that each one has his own room and the bathrooms and livingroom are shared. are there any kitchens?!
I also heard that according to the british system, if somebody failed a certain class he should repeat the whole year.Is that true?
Ice_Queen
Me too  D'ya reckon they'll keep it?

I'm pissed they're closing WM102 though.

Hopefully as its really helpful, especially after what they did to the library basement and stripped all the computers out and replaced them with the thin client machines. That always used to be packed and there were loads more machines too.

They are also closing the ASG44 one of the AS open labs for "administrative reasons", which is a pain. I have only ever been to WM on an open day so no sure how big it is. I am assuming thats your open access room.

Shame I wont be here next year to see if the 24hr thing takes off.

Also while I think about it can anyone do me a favour and tell me if you can get on CUOnline as I havent been able to for the past few days, even through remote desktop.
cheers

Not sure to be honest but at a guess I would assume not regarding the gym during exams. I have never been in the Jag building apart from the Grad cafe. I tend to jump between the AS and the library. I always find that the printers are slow. All the ones I have used seem to take ages, which is a pain when you have a dissertation to print. Even then some pages have lines through them.

Yeah, it's our open access. A real pain that they're closing it.

I'll keep you updated

And nope, haven't been able to. Which has pissed me off, because I want to access revision notes for the exam I have in 1.25hrs.

Dammit.

Oooh, what 24 hour thing?

They are trialling 24hr opening in the library instead of the usual closing at 12 midnight. It was in the source newspaper and I think it arose after people complained that the basement had been moved to align with library opening hours ever since it was refurbed. Here is what the cu portal says

"For the six week period from the start of the Summer term to the end of the exam period (14 April 23 May) the Library will be open continuously from 08:30 on Monday morning until midnight on Friday night. Weekend opening hours will remain as normal i.e. 11:00 19:00. Staffing will be provided by contracted security personnel. Access will be as normal via the main entrance in the arcade of the Frederick Lanchester building. During these hours Library users will be able to borrow and return books (via the the self service machines) and to use PCs; however there will be no Enquiry or Service Desk staff.

This is a pilot project which we hope will meet a percieved student demand for 24 hour access; we will therefore be monitoring usage closely.

Everyone gets a bedroom with a desk, bed, table, sink and two chairs. We have to share a bathroom with four other people in G block, don't know about J. You get a kitchen per floor in G block (so sharing with nine others) with a fridge and microwave. They're looking at introducing some sort of grill either next year or the year after, but as you're catered, it doesn't matter that much.

Yes, if you fail a mandatory module you have to retake the year, but there is a resit period
Oh Christ...Financial Accounting exam in one hour...I am so totally screwed here...

*STRESS LEVELS GO OFF THE SCALE*

I've only revised half of it...and not very well (i.e. only company accounts not partnership accounts)....and I'm worried :'(

More news when I come out of the exam!

UPDATE: Yeah...I'll be back for resits.

Anytime you have a question, just quote me so I know you've replied here, or PM me  I am always happy to help!

Basically, you will do a selection of modules. The average of those modules (sometimes some are weighted differently, and some have to be counted, some don't..it depends) will give you a percentage. If this percentage is higher than 70% at the end you get a 1st class, over 60% you get an upper second, over 50& you get a lower second, and over 40% you get a third.
Check the wiki for more info on the system

Oh, OK...oooh maybe because you're international!
Yeah the sports centre is pretty good. Only a short walk from Priory, and we have free access to the gym (weights, all sorts of cardio, etc.), and we can book the big halls. Not sure if those are free or not, but I think they are.
<CJ>
Yeah, you can get one hour free booking per person, but a max of 2 hours. So if you just wanted a hall for 1 hour, just book it yourself, but for 2 hours you need 2 people (2 student cards).

Not ALL halls you get free membership though, the private run ones (Raglan... *mind's gone blank*) you still have to pay. But yeah, places like Priory and Singer you get it free

On a personal note, have my hardest exam on Saturday  I really, really hope it isn't as bad as it could be. I've been part ignoring the other exams just to make sure I pass this one and don't have to come back during summer. Please please please let it be ok.

How many more have you got Jess? By your post it didn't sound like you were too happy about the last one, but you honestly never know. I thought i'd aced one last year and got around 40% and then buggered one and still got about 60%. Baffles me sometimes.

---

Also, glad to see the gym a little quieter today. Bloody boiling, but a definate upside to exams. Plus the amazing weather of late has picked me up a bit (shame it come during revision time really >.<

Ah, thanks for the heads up on the gym thing. It's the University owned ones get free gym (Priory, Quadrant, Singer).

Good luck on Saturday! I have Management Accounting (181ACC) which should be OK if I dedicate tomorrow to revising budgets and a quick run over variance analysis. I will definitely be back in summer, but that doesn't bother me because I am staying in Cov over summer anyway. Not going home for eighteen weeks, NOT HAPPENING.

I have two more exams left now, Management Accounting and Mathematical Techniques or something, that's next Friday. I think I've passed all except Financial Accounting, but it doesn't bother me really. God, I got into Data Analysis earlier (Stats!) and just totally forgot everything I had spent the previous three hours going over! I was in tears! I do not cope well with exams.

Yeah, it's a shame we've finally got some hot weather during exam period! Ah well. Why the hell were you in the GYM! I picked up my skates from home a while back, so I am spending as much time as possible at the rink, and I flatly refuse to use the gym in this weather.
<CJ>
Yeah, they're really good in the gym, they'll set up whatever you want and provide you with stuff (only ever played football in there though).

And thanks, I think i'll need all the luck I can get really
Did you just say 18 weeks  I know it felt an absolute age last year, but never thought how long it would. Good god, 18 weeks :s:
Last year it felt like i'd already had a summer even before the schools came out, it was mad how much went on in that time.

Anyway, good luck in the rest of your exams too!! I'm kinda grateful i've only got 3 in total like yourself (my housemate has 7 :indiff: god knows how i'd cope) but still nightmare-ish. I've got a stats module next year too not looking forward... and same about exams, i'd take 100% coursework any day of the week. Never been my strong point :frown:

Hmmm, why did I go gym, that is a question :p: No, I was feeling lazy after not going in over a week so had to be done. Although to be honest, I don't know who was sweating more, people in the gym or those in the exam hall

Now back it revision I think *grumble*

Yeah, we worked it out, and from our last exam to first day back, it's eighteen weeks!
Nope, I've got six total. 116ECN and 150CLS on Monday, 180ACC yesterday, 113ECN today, 181ACC on Saturday, and 182ACC on Friday  It's exhausting, I'd take 100% coursework too. I stress over exams, which is detrimental to my performance, especially when you consider my bi-polar.
That's why skating is great. Good work out (when I skated regularly, my leg muscles were top class. My mission- get them back!) and cool! And you don't get warm water either

Good luck with the revision, I'm getting ready to go out...*bad Jessica*
