There's an exerscise in the Pearson Edexcel C4 textbook - chapter 6 - part C, question 3. Most of the questions follow a simple pattern but there are 2 which I don't get how they work. This particular ones I've seen pop up on papers and are worth like 4 marks.

Can someone please tell me how they do the first step in each of these questions. - I will +rep tommorow

Post the question not just a reference, that way you'll get a better response.

Cos(A) - Cos(B) = -2sin (\frac{A+B}{2})sin(\frac{A-B}{2})

This, and other similar results (derived from the addition formulae) should be in your C3 book (and also are in the C3 part of the Forumlae Booklet).

Edit: I hope that's the step you were talking about.
