I love marmite.

Duh-duh-duh-duh-dum-duh duh!, dum duh-duh duh duh....
If their friends cleared it up, or they were sick in a toilet, then they wouldn't get fined either. One of the reasons they take in campus cards at the gate is to prevent people running away after vomiting.
How about opting out of Sports stuff? It does seem like a lot of money, the letter I got implied the Sports card is only if u want to play sports for ur uni. I wouldnt want to be on any teams (well couldnt be on any teams as im a bit of a ****** when it comes to sports) but I would want to use the swimming pool and maybe gym.

Good question. Getting yourself a sports card lets you use the facilities at Maiden Castle which is where the uni gym, sports fields and stuff all are. But (and I'm 90% sure of this) you have to pay extra on top of your sports card to use the gym there. A lot (all?) of colleges have their own gym and ours at Grey has always been good enough for me but I'm not a sports-mad type and I've heard that the gym at Madien Castle is very, very good.

As for the swimming pool, the uni doesn't actually have one! There's the Durham City 'baths' which is a pretty average public swimming pool (not that I've ever been) round towards HildBede but I think the serious swimmers all use a swimming pool somewhere else.

I don't think you actually need a sports card to be on any of the college sports teams and even if you don't think of yourself as an athelete a lot of the college teams don't take themselves very seriously (I hear Collingwood has an 'E' football side?) so don't write off joining college teams!

well they did niether, sort of on the floor in the middle of the bar when it was empty, it showed that the barstaff and bouncer security is rubbish

how much is it? At aidans I think it's £50 but people usually do somthing about it or if it's in the jcr someone from shopcom helps them
I think it varies according to how pissed off the barstaff are. They can choose to waive it totally if you're really good and clear it up, or they can fine as much as £75-£100 at maximum. I'm not totally sure how payment would be enforced, although there may be some kind of agreement between JCRs or colleges that they'll enforce one another's fines.

I think they withhold your campus card until you pay and then threaten to kick you out and stuff if you're reluctant paying, I seem to remember reading that about the guys who stripped in marys bar
A new campus card, however, only costs a fiver, and being banned from Mary's bar doesn't seem like that much of a punishment...

I would guess they dont let you have another card, and they were banned from all bars, not that I can see that working, but they were fined loads, they could just add it to your college bill
Yeah, it's cheaper if you're a Castleman, but I'm not sure by how much. I thought it was £25, but I guess it varies.

Yep. This was Collingwood's great money making scheme. If someone threw up if they could find out who it was the individual would get fined. If they couldn't then the college would charge the JCR! So at the end of the year you get a massive damages bill which has to be split by all the people in the JCR.

Collingwood seemed to be renowned for it's large damages bills... mainly as the small minority of people (usually no-neckers) who dont think twice about smashing doors and pissing all over the bar! Lovely.

oh dear - do you have to pay even if you make it to the toilets/outside in time?

As long as they don't see sick... and the cleaners dont complain....

Who incidentally are firstly your best friends... but then dont give a **** about dobbing on you as soon as you do ONE LITTLE THING WRONG... like have a candle... or a heater... or a toaster... etc... lol

 They're all fire hazards though - and we all know how sensitive the smoke alarms in Durham colleges are (especially Collingwood, where apparantly too much deodorant can set them off  )......so having candles, heaters, or toasters in your room would be a pretty stupid idea :p:

Though I agree they should just say "You shouldn't have that in here" rather than go telling someone else to tell you off

And on the topic of damages bills - in Trevs this year someone decided to relieve him/herself by having a number 2 on one of the stairwells. The cleaners discovered it and handed over a hefty bill to the JCR :frown:

They asked for someone to own up to it, but I don't think anyone did!

I seem to remember a lot of anger when people found out who set the fire alarm off at aidans for like the 3rd night in a row
