Find the initial speed of the recoil of the rifle (2.08) - I have done this already
- The rifle recoils a horizontal distance of 0.02m before coming to rest. Assumign that the horizontal force which brings it to rest is constant
find in kN the magnitude of the horizontal force

Quite a lot of the time it I find it helps if you write down what you do (and don't) know as well as the relevant equations:

v = 2.08
u = 0
s = 0.02
m = 6

The main equation you (should) remember about force is . We don't know a, so:
a = ?

Remembering equations, we can find a using:

Once you have worked out the acceleration, you can work out the force using:
