Grosvenor Place?

Hi all

Got my accommodation offer other week and im at grosvenor place, wasnt any of my choices. what's this place like does anyone know? from the picture on the accom brochure it doesnt look very nice compared to grosvenor street building, lambart hall etc but i'm sure i'll cope.

whats the social life like? oh and do they have internet connections in each room? thanks.

hey yeah they have internet connecitons in each room, £92 a year
the kitchens are only a year old and very nice, slightly smaller than grosnover street building but otherwise nice.
its a really sociable place, always something going on, i'm sure you'll love it there. if you applied for grosvenor street building, then thats why u got grosvenor place because if u dont get one preference within that group u automatically get considered for another vacancy within the same group on the site. but anyway GP and GSB are both great places to live!

Grosvenor Place = Single Sex... so that's why I'm annoyed I got it! Asked for Mixed Ensuite Grosvenor Street Building and get Single Sex Shared Bathroom Grosvenor Place!

Ah well, there are benefits to single sex I guess and a shared bathroom saves a lot of cash. I'm in Block E Floor E, nice to hear it's a good place to stay!

oh didnt realise it was single sex :s-smilie: does grosvenor street building have any en-suit rooms???

anyway im happy about saving money, especially since i didnt realise how much the prices were going up from the 04/05 rent rate. Lambert (my first choice) is charging something like £3140 for 38 week contract!! I wouldnt have been happy with that.

oh and how do you know which floor you are on from the room numbers??

Actually, thinking about it I think Gros Street was my non-ensuite choice, but I still didn't get mixed :P

My flat in Grosvenor Place (on the letter) is EE08 so I'm guessing that's block E, floor E and flat 08

Hopefully the friday (16th i think). Can't make it on the Saturday so it's Friday or Sunday for me. Found out what room you're in yet?

Grosvneor Place is not single sex, just each 'flat' is single sex. so on your floor you will still have the opposite sex, just not in the adjacent rooms. there's plently of mixing going on dont worry.

EE08 means block E, floor E, room8. technically there arent any plats, just separate blocks and floors.

Grosvenor street building is definitely not ensuite, 2 showers per flat of 8. each flat is single sex but floors are mixed, same as grosvenor place.

Exactly as has been said above. its not a single sex hall but its a single sex flat where you get perhaps 14 girls sharing 3 toilets and 2 shower rooms. (like i did in my first year) on the other side of your floor you will have guys flat (if you are a f) basically its a mixed hall, just the facilities shared are only b/w you and your flatmates. You dont get en-suit in any of the grosvenor group buildings. students in GP got on pretty well and you have this bar called scuba next to the hall where most people hang out and social events take place. The hall itself organises some events at times too, parties and all. it's a cool place. the only thing i remember is people used to have things stolen from their room and food from the kitchen. Then the whole crowd from the same flat had to be checked and all. That was a big big mess. But you just have to more careful, lock your door when you leave for the kitchen or shower. some people went on to their 2nd year sharing a house with their ex-flatmates from gp.
What is the nearest large supermarket to Grosvenor Place? Is it the Asda in Hulme? If so, is there a best way to walk to it?
Thanks

walk over oxford rd and down booth st east past the college of music, keep goin straight on through a few new houses (in strangely empty close) and over the bridge. dont walk ALL the way over the bridge, go down the steps about 3/4 pf the way over (just after its cleared the road). walk left down an empty disused carriageway thats adjacent to the existing one (opposite side of raod to land rover dealer) and keep going, youll see the little retail park its on appear before too long. maybe not best place to walk to alone/at night but this is the best route.

was in bowden court. single sex flats suck balls. putting only guys on ground floor sucks more. putting me on the ground floor megasucks.
Thanks
