'Of mice and Men' Quotes for exam

Basically I have my GCSE lit exam on tuesday and I need to revise. I am really unsure what to revise so I thought seeing as i struggle with em, I should learn some quotes and where they are situated in the Novel.

I always find when doing mock exams that I spend alot of unecessary time on finding quotes when I dont have a clue where they are. I often settle with a quote i find that i didnt set out to find in the first place if you get what i mean.

Basically is there any tips anyone has for revising this novel and learning quotes and where they are in the text. Any help is much appreciated.

theres not really a lot of point learning quotes you would be better off learning page numbers, if you want to know how to find them quickly you could choose two or three that you are almost sure you will use (it doesnt really work for more) and then leave the book open at those pages for a few days then in the exam it will automatically open at that page, and its not acutally cheating as youre not marking the text in any way, also if you find you spend too long looking for the right place in the text then choose the question which focuses on only one/two chapter(s) that way you have far less of the book to look through to find suitable quotes

that second point is a good bit of advice actually thanks. As for opening the book, i dont think we take our book in, they give us one on the day...

Thats not fair! We aren't even allowed to have a copy of the book in the exam so we need to memorise all the quotes which is quite difficult as I don't know which quotes to memorise

well i try and use quotes which will basically fit for most of the questions.
also the question could give you a hint on where to look, so if the question said explain how Crooks is portrayed, then you'll get most of your quotes from chapter 4
and if it said discuss the use of nature, then you'll look at the beginning, end and the beginning of each chapter to talk about stuff like animals and sunlight and other stuff

For of mice and men there are a few quotes you can always talk about, "his paw" describing lenny as an animal, his description of the farm, "Soledad" is based on the theme of loneliness which can be developed, you can talk about where of mice and men comes from and it's relevance to the story. There's a lot of good quotes that you can learn if you go through the story.

Lol we don't get to take books in from standard grade onwards, just learn the most useful quotes which can be used to answer most questions and you should be fine, normally i'd say learn up to 10 key quotes and you should be set for the exam.

When I did 'Of mice and men' at GCSE, I made up a fair fe of my quotes if I couldn't find them. I mean, If i knew roughly what they said and the meaning of them then I could pretty much bodge making one up  I came out with 2 A*s in English so I guess it worked for me. Just, go in there knowing the text as well as you can. That means reading the novel over and over, even if it's just one chapter you can't really remember, read the whole thing. You'll be suprised how much you'll pick up for the exam... Good luck!! x

ive got my exam on Tuesday as well, i can just advise you to learn now atleast one quote that reflects the main characters being:

George
Lennie
Slim
Curley
Candy
Crooks
Carlson
Curley's wife
Boss

and find one qoute reflecting on a theme:

Friendship
Dreams
Lonelines
Other - racism and migrant workers

you dont have to learn the qoute, just read it once and then think about you can write about it now, and then it will come up in the exam when you need it.

it works for me normally, and i hope it will work an tuesday

hope i helped
