Can anyone tell me what you get when you add chlorine to hot/concentrated sodium hydroixde. I think I remember you get something different from hypochloric acid but I lost my notes. Can someone please tell if you do get a different product from this reaction?

You get a disproportionation reaction to form a halate [V] salt:

Cl2 + NaOH --> NaCl + H2O + NaClO3
