St Catherine's college's architecture was inspired by the slums in india after its architect spent an day there tripped up in LSD.

The moat around St Catz was apparently constructed to prevent students from escaping  - to more attractive colleges

If this stops being amusing and starts being a slanging match between people who aren't even here yet, then I shall be sad.

i) Why 'if'? Surely 'when', or even better 'because', are more suitable?
ii) Where's your fire and brimstone?! Be sad?! You're a mod! "Delete the thread and ban the lot of ya" is what the people wanna hear!

Nah, I like the thread, it's entertaining. I dislike "Oxford smell!" "No, Cambridge smell more!" from people yet to matriculate

Apparently a fun sport (2nd to watching people trying to break onto Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross) is wandering round the Botanic Gardens in Oxford on Midsummer's Day spotting people looking for windows

Due to a change in regulations banning climbing on college buildings, Trinity College Cambridge's statue of Henry VIII still shows him wielding a wooden chair leg, as no-one's allowed to climb up and change it. IIRC, the sword was lost after the changeover.

Natasha Kaplinsky went to Hertford. The JCR got a new room this year, and we got to vote on what it would be called, with The Kaplinsky Room being one of the options. That option was beaten by "The RON Room" (amongst others)

Apparently Timmy Mallet went to Keble, and apparently he didn't. Never did clear that one up :p: .

Sorry if thats aimed at me, I was only replying to darkenergy's beta test comment  .

Sidney Sussex JCR recently renamed their TV room the "Karl Kennedy TV Room" in honour of that beloved star of every student's favourite Aussie soap.
The rivalry between Lincoln and Brasenose is founded on a tragic incident (apparently)- in which during the fights with the town, a student had tried to get into one of the colleges (which was not his- forgot which) and wasn't able to, and so met an awful end :frown:
