Bleeding on the pill

*Annoyed*

I take the pill constantly, because I really hate periods. I'm on the third pack of non-stop, I guess it's the seventh week, and I keep bleeding. I've been bleeding for just over a week, not like a proper period, but more like it would be at the start. Sometimes I'm getting cramps as well. How do I stop this? Normally I'd stop taking the pill and have a period and get it over with, but I'm pissed off with my body - it's mine and it will do what I want  How do I stop this stupid bleeding? Should I take a few pills at once? Like a double dose?

While I'm having my rant, is there anything that can stop periods? I've heard the implant can, but it can also cause constant bleeding (like now).

Another problem is that the pill makes me put on weight, and to lose it I have to practically starve myself - I've put on almost two stone since I started running packets together :frown: :frown: :frown: Are there any pills which don't cause weight gain? I've tried Dianette, Yasmin, Marvellon, Micro-something...

Thanks

you shouldnt over dose on them you can do some serious harm, and your having these symptoms because your not having a break. Most doctors dont recommend taking these pills without a break for months and months, it can cause some big problems down the line.

The best thing to do is go to the docs, and explain your situation. Though i wouldnt be suprised if you get a lecture about not following the instructions properly, having a period removes things from the body which are bad for you. Think of it as a detox. Seriously though talk to him/her, they are the best person to tell you if you have any options.

Lauren, your body needs to have periods, and if you continuously run packs of pills together it will at some point rebel and you'll bleed.

I think the injection can stop periods; less sure about the implant as it can also cause spotting etc for a while.

Bleeding like this definitely means a trip to the Doctor.

Some doctors *might* agree to you taking the pill back to back with supervision, but you would still have to have a break for a 'period' every few months.

I hate to say it, but you can't control your body to that extent. I know what you mean though, it's frustrating, I refuse to be a slave to my menstrual cycle and control it as much as I can (which isn't much).

However, you need to have periods, otherwise where is all the built up womb lining gonna go? The build up of fluid etc is probably partly responsible for the weight gain too. I doubt there is anything wrong, you just need to let yourself bleed sometimes, annoying though that may be (it's probably less annoying than the current situation though). And the implant does stop your periods in general, so I would recommend that if you're having weight/period issues on the pill.

Does the lining stuff keep building up until you have a period?

I want to control my body properly :frown: Stupid stupid periods. I thought you could get a pill you take all the time?

Yep - The oestrogen helps it to build up, while the progesterone maintains it. Hence when you have your break and your hormone levels drop, the lining sheds. However if you are running packs together, as the layer gets thicker, the level of progesterone in the pill is not enough to keep all the cells alive so some will come off anyway and you will bleed.

I'm not aware of any pills that you can continuously run together and never have a period. If you're on the POP/mini-pill then you take them all month but still have a period.

You have to have periods, otherwise where would all the lining go?! Yuk.

I'm on Cerazette, POP, and I have very minor periods and very little breakthrough bleeding..and after a while on it most girls periods will stop, you might want to try it.

I would definitely see the doctor about this but the Pill (depending which make) can have various side effects depending on how your body reacts to it. Try typing the name of your pill into google and read some customer reviews it comes up with and see if anyone else has suffered the same or a similar problem.

Well its just normal if you run packs together tbh..if you read the booklet you'd know that.

its not good thing to be bleeding! Definately get it checked

It's not a major problem if she's been running packs together. Google "breakthrough bleeding"

i must be dumb, i never really heard the phrase breakthrough bleeding til now. So i didnt really know what it ment, but by the looks all it is, is what i would call spotting.

I never get any spotting, but then again i let my body do its natural thing and have its monthly flush out. i dont really find periods a big issue, sure i cant wear anything but big pants and i sometimes get sore when its hot and my towel rubs. I kinda sympathise with babys and nappie rash

i get breakthrough bleeding when i forget to take it for a couple of days, or if i run a couple of packs together. It's normal.

i think it depends on the type of pill ur taking, because the one i was on was ok to run packs together, and didnt cause bleeding, and it clearly stated to "seek medical advice" if bleeding occurs, somet to do with it not being "compatible" with your body or something?!!?!
its not gonna do any harm going to the doctor and jst checking everything is ok hun!

ok well wot u shud do is come off the combined pill and go on the mini pill (only contains artificial progesterone). Its only the combined pills that give you the nasty side effects like putting on weight and bad mood swings etcetc....as for the constant light bleeding...that may be because your not being punctual enough when taking the pill...even taking it one day 5 minutes later than the previous can cause this. U can miss ur period by constantly taking the pill up to a maximum of three times, cos remember, although the pill is beneficial in most ways, it can have really undesired effects due to the fact that u are putting a high dosage of artificial hormones into ur body and the monthly tissue build up must come out! just go to ur gyno or gp and get the minipill....ive been on it and i actually feel better on it than off! it has artificial happy endorphines which make u feel great! hope ive helped.

Hmm..I beg to differ. I started on the minipill and that's the only one that ever gave me bad side effects. For the first 14 days exactly I was ridiculously moody, for the other 14 I was bleeding constantly. You can't say something's a 'good pill' or a 'bad pill', people respond in different ways,. that's why there are so many!

Lots of people spurting information matter of factly on this thread, stuff that quite simply may not always be true! Le Vintage, saying that only combined pills cause side effects is a load of crap. Admittedly, mini pills may be generally more tolerated than combined pills but they are notorious for irregular bleeding and spotting! Weight gain is also another side effect of the mini pill. It also all depends on the person. Telling Lauren 'what you should do is go and get this because it does this' is no good to anyone, because everyone reacts differently to different things. Ive been on mini and combined pills, several of each, and one mini pill (cerazette) made me spot almost constantly for 6months. as for happy endorphines being in the mini pill.. i have *never* heard of this! Anyone care to reinforce? Seems pretty odd to me. Also, seeing as Lauren is stating that she really wants to control her periods, the mini pill seems like the worst idea if you ask me, seeing as you cant control a thing, thats what i hated about it.

Nicki, the pill you were on sounds very odd. the only mini pill in the uk available that starts with an 'M' is Micronor which isnt particularly long and is definitely fine to bleed on! 'seeing medical attention if bleeding occurs' on any form of hormonal contraception is a bit silly really, because there is not one form that can guarantee it will completely stop bleeds.

Lauren... it is annoying but its really nothing to worry about as Fleece and Helenia have said. Apparently, usually people find they can manage 2 months back to back without spotting, but 3 is pushing it a bit. Not for everyone of course, some people are fine. how high is the oestrogen dose in your pill? quite low doses (like 20mcg) are slightly less succesful when it comes to cycle control, so you could try a higher dose pill. As for the weight gain... i heard yasmin helps reduce bloating and less people have suffered weight gain on it, but if you've already tried that then its obviously not for you. i don't know of any others in particular that claim to keep weight constant, sorry.
