What is it?

Who gets it?

When is it?

im confused..........

What is it? Well it is supposed to be when you do background reading for your course - about the stuff you've already covered and have yet to cover. Unofficially it is a better week than Freshers Week, because you know what you like and what you don't by the time it rolls along! It is basically a week with no lectures and no tutorials and depending on your degree program, you will have none, one or two a year. The first reading week is halfway between starting back at university in late September, and going home for Xmas in early/mid December. The second reading week which seems to be granted by less and less degree programs is the week after January exams.

I can only speak for my degree (BA Econ), but I get 2 of the beauties a year. I don't think science courses get any, but I may be wrong.
i no the chemistry department dont do it, cos my bf doesnt have one!
I went home for Reading Week last year...that was stupid of me!

so not doing that if i get a reading week this year!

Noooo, no reading week for science students!! You mean I will have to keep up to date with my reading from the start!! lol.

I loved reading week on my last degree, it was great!!

Well, I've got last year's "Blue Book" (physics undergrad handbook)in front of me, and it doesn't mention a "Reading Week" as such, but it does have an "Independent Study Week" in the first term, which I guess is the same principle.

Hopefully there'll be one this year as well!

reading week= 1 week of holiday
its a week supposeldy made for students to get on their reading list and read !!
usually you get 1 reading week per semester per subject, depending on the course you are doing and different modules subject may have separate reading week. If you do economics you will get it. and if you take politics or sociology you are likely to get it too. if you do combine, i think you will get 2 reading weeks in one semester. during the reading week there wont be any lecture take place for that particular subject only, but you might have to go to other lectures. oh and usually not too long after the reading week (think its 1 or 2 weeks later) , you are to hand in one piece of essay work for that subject. As least thats what for econ. students.
