I get told loads of bad things about Liverpool

Whenever someone asks me what uni I have chosen to go to, and I say "Liverpool", they always reply with the same"Liverpool!? Why would you wanna go there?" They then go to tell me a whole load of stories about bad stuff that happens in Liverpool. I picked it because I liked the quick look I had of the city - although looking at the city whilst on the bus to the uni doesn't really give me a proper look, and because it is a Russell Group uni, and hence on of the best in the country. I didn't really think about night life, but I think it wasn't the best place to pick (for me), as I don't really want to be out partying and going to clubs, etc. I would prefer quiet nights out, or I would like to work in a bar or pub so I don't get drunk and waste my money, but earn some, whilst being in the thick of things.

Why did you pick Liverpool? When you go there, what are you looking forward to? What are you dreading?

All i know is I hate the accent and my mate worked doors there for a while and said it was the roughest place he had ever worked, people were trying to bring guns into the clubs. No idea about the uni, a girl i know goes there who is now a dirty dyke, go figure

It's stories like this that make me think I made a bad choice.

It is obviously a very good uni and being at uni you will be surrounded by students so hopefully you wont have to bear that god aweful accent too much. I think it is like any city, it will have good and bad areas.

It's a bit of a ghetto. I know someone who lives nearby and they say they prefer to Manchester to Liverpool in terms of feeling safe, in the city centre.

At least the **** bits of Manchester are places you don't have to go.

absolute ******** that Liverpool is a nice place; what would you expect club wise from a more or less central hub.

There is more knife & gun crime in London than liverpool, and the gun crime that there is is in the outskirts on the estates

but yeh the accent is ****

it's a party city. i've only been there for a night out- it was a good one. That's my contribution.

Like all places, it has its good parts and its bad parts, you just need to know which parts are which. Sure, there are bound to be a few idiots out in the city centre, but you can't exactly say that that's not the same anywhere else, can you? Anyone who says that the whole city is terrible is lying out of their arse.

Seriously, Liverpool's not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

The city centre is brilliant and there's no need to go to the "rough" places. At the end of the day, there's going to be trouble in every city and as long as you've got some common sense you'd be unlucky to run into trouble.

You'll have a brilliant time studying there, it's got everything you'd want.

It's no worse than any other city. I don't understand why it has such a bad rep.

I've spent many many nights staying in Blackpool and ok it's a bit rough around clubs in the early hours of the morning, but it's not **** by any means!
And Glasgow is a fantastic city, has it's rough estates but you stay away from them.

blackpool is a ******** with one of the worst drug problems in the country- obviously the clubs are the safe areas as they are heavily policed

nowhere did I say it was rough, if we exempt attacks from crackheads & alchys

Glascow is also a ********

theres going to be bad parts of every city, and yeah, liverpool has its bad parts. but as a student, espcially for the first year, you'll be living in the city centre, which is what i was sold on when i visited. its amazing. the docks are stunning and the shopping centres are brilliant and the nightlife is ace.

What about "wierdos" like me, who prefer a quite night out than getting mashed at some club.

I don't really know much about the uni, my brother loved it there but he went as a mature student and lived at home so I can't really make any comments about that.

The city itself is great though and I'm not just being biased. Obviously there are some dodgy places in town but what city doesn't have its rough edges? Most of the city centre is brand new as of the last couple of years and there's soooo much stuff to do. The majority of people are really friendly aswell. Like anywhere, if you go out looking for trouble then you'll get it but if you're just out for a good time then you'll get that too, no hassle. And don't worry, not everyone here is out to steal from you :p:
