You'll probably be expected to help out a lot at school events and organise things, so you'll need to be prepared to work hard and keep to deadlines, look smart and be friendly when greeting parents and maybe make speeches in assemblies.

If my school is anything to go by... being able to write and speak very well, have a good academic record and no previous history of doing nasty things, being friendly.

And because the last stage of choosing a head girl at our school is a student vote - being popular. But actually this year, the people who wrote the funniest speeches won, I think.

First of all, congratulations! It's a big job and obviously they think you have the ability to do it well.

Just don't be too arrogant and stuck up like one of our Head Girls were because of their position, try to socialise with everybody in the whole school because then they'll look up you more!

Good luck!

its not that difficult you'll prbly be called upon to do stuff maybe in sum assemblies or address you peers about sumthin, if your quite confident infront of others you'll be fine

At the end of the year when you are tied up and put in the boot of a car and driven away and then egged, don't resist, you'll only get hurt

Lol, my suggestion got deleted.
Everyone will believe you are going out with the Head Boy.

I missed out on becoming even a prefect by the skin of my teeth from the sounds of it. All that keeping the train in order, down the drain. Good luck to the twonker who got the job instead, HAHAHAHAHAHA
I haven't taken too much notice of the head girls until the last couple of years. The last couple of head girls I've noticed I think have done a good job. They're friendly and approachable, the dress smartly, are very well spoken and good at talking in public. They organise school events, sometimes come over to talk at assembly usually to GCSE students about revision techniques and answer questions some pupils may have.
Basically they have to be great role models. Have a clean record and be really hardworking and achieve top grades. Oh and I think they have quite a range of extra curricular activites such as volunteering, being part of societies etc.
Well done for being the head girl, I don't think I would be able to do it. Good luck.

Yes, look up the words 'prosterate', 'precocious' and 'brainless'. Prosterate is a great verb which describes exactly the position in which you will spend much of the time, and the two adjectives describe the personality of the horrible litle bitch we had as our Head Girl.

Also, if you currently have any opinions of your own, find a way of smuggling them out of your mind, or at the very least, don't act on them. It won't help you in your career as a Head Girl.
You could do what the new head girl at my school's already done. Took photos of herself topless and sent them to her best friend's boyfriend and made everyone really really hate her. Or then again maybe not. I have to give a speech in front of 650-750 people - so I'm really nervous!
Don't act like you are above everybody else because of your position.
Not me apparently....(still bitter...)
Er just generally being a good representative of the school, being good with the younger pupils etc I guess.
We had senior students at our schoo, a bit like headboy/girl but there was a team of of us five instead. Our head of VIth form was really keen to get us more involved with the lower school, so we organised mentoring for new year 7s, a scheme to help struggling year 8s, school council and sixth form comittee. One of the ebst things we did was host our local inter-sixth form competitions - SuperBrain (quiz) and SuperStars (silly sports). Could you maybe set something like that up in your area, or even just in school? It was a great way of getting to know people! WE were also responsible for organising sixth form parties, the year book and the ball...so much to do! Good Luck!!
someone approachable is a must have. but im sure youl be fine! i was head girl last year... and it looks good on CVs and stuff

Actually, thats true, our head girl keeps running around going on about how much of a good person she is- she has actually said to me 'I'm doing this because I'm a good person.'
That's enough to make anyone a) want to vomit and b) hit her.
But I think helping younger pupils is certainly a good way to go, there is always something you can do there.
