Because women want the attention.

I've seen many situations where girls will be chatting and they'll say to one another "X really likes you" and in response they'll say "Oh I really like X too, I hope he asks me out!"

Because they feel that they have the upper hand.

British society has always put women in the stronger position when it comes to mating, and also there are more men than women so it
figures that they will have it easy.

I resent this. I'm a girl and I've done this.
It's just bloody terrifying. And guys are always so...cool and casual, you know? All unruffled and there you are having a heart attack and you can never tell if they'll like you back...

as title says. why does the guy always have to be the one to take the 'risk' in saying that he fancies the girl?

Probably for the same reason guys don't.

Scared of rejection etc

it's not nice, so just be brave and ask her out :p:

I guess we just don't have the guts?? Well, I don't..

Reply 6

i think its also coz girls are more afraid of rejection than guys in some cases

Reply 7

Because girls, like the old saying goes, are scared and weak and know deep down that men are all powerful.

Inferior gender.

Because he'll have less respect for you in the long run if you offer yourself on a plate. If he has to work at least a little hard to get you he will appreciate the rewards for his effort more.

Completely scared of rejection, first of all. And we get so many mixed signals, too--i've heard/read a lot of people say that if a guy likes you he will tease you/give banter/try to act casual etc and tbh i'd feel like i'd be coming completely out of the blue by just asking him out?
Also because i'm a girl and i like the guys to do it

genuinely terrified that he will laugh in my face, and it will ruin our friendship.

exactly!

Reply 16

Fear of ridicule tbf.
And if it's a friend that I've fallen for; then fear of losing that friend by alienating him.

Reply 17

Because "LOLoolllolol X asked Y out!!" gets spread round a school faster than plague, and 99% of the time it'll be a no.. so why bother making things awkward.

Reply 18

Because it's bad enough we have periods and give birth at least use your balls for something :facepalm2:

Girls are more giggily than cool and casual. Guys look like they don't care about NOWT D:
I envy that casualness...I mean guys can rock up and be terrified but still manage to look completely unbothered about it...
I went god awfully high pitched and meek and shaky :/ i.e. I looked like a bigger fool than any of the guys that have asked me out
