I am a Guardian reader, although when oon public transport I do prefer the Indepependent for its tabloid format.

Oh by the way, I'm not a lefty! I'm as unbiased as you could get. Even thought about the Daily Sport to prove this.

I say the same about the Daily Mail because it caters for my particular political persuasion, just as Socialist Worker does to yours.

I go between reading The Times and the (Glasgow) Herald. Is it just ignorance or does the rest of the UK not have the same tradition we have in Scotland of daily broadsheet national newspapers (ie, with national and international news) published outside of London?

As far as I am aware, the Guardian used to be published in Manchester, but it's only a glorified relay station there now. Here we have the Herald, the Scotsman (Edinburgh).

Oh and I sometimes buy the American broadsheets because my local newsagent does them. Gives an interesting change of perspective.
I read the Scotsman myself, but then my family is from the East Coast. I can't stand the Herald, too full of Guardianistas (I like my papers to reflect my views in some ways). On holiday we get the Daily Mail for relaxation since it isn't just dry politics, and I should think about getting the Times one of these days. Also the Daily Telegraph I find is always a good read. However, I can't stand the Sun or the Express, or the Mirror/Record for that matter.

Out of all the main papers, I hate the Record the most. Would I be correct in thinking it's the most read newspaper in Scotland too?

You know, I remember hearing a bunch of SNP types talking about The North Briton newspaper.... took me a while to figure out what the bloody hell they were talking about.

The Scotsman, The Independent, The Times, The Financial Times and The Guardian. I usually get two of these a day, more than likely The Scotsman and The Independent.

I very rarely read The Guardian - it's too difficult to read on public transport, and a really patronising play / article a couple of months ago about community service from a prisoner's point of view pissed me off into not buying it often. It's just too biased and liberal for me.

The Independent, The Times, and The Gaurdian.

The first is the best newspaper in the country in my opinion, the second is the one I tend to read the most simply because it's laying around the house, and third is often the source of very brave and challenging journalism, even though it often lets itself down with poor style, layout, editing, and the tendency to occasionally go a bit off the rails.

I'm tempted to start reading the Economist now... If the economist is a newspaper, does the New Scientist count?

We used to get all the major national newspapers deivered to our sixth form centre so I've read most of them.

Mine's the Guardian, I enjoy the scientific edition and all the extras you get on a saturday- I do read the actual newspaper on occaison and the articles are usually quite good even if I don't agree with them. The times isn't my cup of tea and I've only read the Socialist worker once- those socialists are always hanging around Ealing Broadway. The Independant's pretty boring and the Sun's always good for a laugh, and contains possibly the only crossword that I can complete.

I read The Times/The Sunday Times, my local newspaper and er, sometimes the Daily Mail!

The Times is ok, i find its student section especially informative. My local paper, bless it, seems to always be campaigning for something to be changed, anything almost! And the Daily Mail is unintentional comedy...

(but shouldn't the poll have more than one option only? Personally, i don't read one the most....)

Unfortunately. It used to be the paper of the Conservative Protestant working class in Glasgow too! I think its politics changed about the time that the Mirror group bought it up in the 50s.

You know, I remember hearing a bunch of SNP types talking about The North Briton newspaper.... took me a while to figure out what the bloody hell they were talking about.
Let them moan. The surprising thing is that my dad, an SNP reader, gets and enjoys the Scotsman.

Oh yeah and as you said, I prefer the Independent's format! Why won't the Guardian go tabloid, theyre meant to be progressive aren't they??
The Guardian is going to the Berliner format sometime soon actually.

I read it occasionally though my paper of choice is the Times, though I preferred the old broadsheet verssion.
