is there anyone who stayed in astor college have any extra info. on it?

eg.
are the rooms big? are they modern?

if anyone cld help. that would be great! thanks.

hi,
i'm going into my second year at ucl, and just thought i'd tell you that some of my friends were in astor college last year. when i went to see them i was pleasantly suprised - the rooms are larger than the ones at ramsay, and they have huge windows, which are double glazed so it keeps the noise out. i don't remember much about the bathrooms but i think they were ok. the kitchens there are nice - they're reasonably new (i think), and are really big with tables in them and chairs, so it's a great place to hang out and get to know people. the whole block is modern (probably 1960s ish), and it's all noice and clean - well, before the students move in at least!

the location is great, as you are only a 3 minute walk from university, and are right in the heart of the city. some of the other halls are much further out (for example i was in ifor evans this year (in camden!), and had a great time, but it was much more trouble coming into uni if i just wanted to use the library). living close to uni is the best, as you can always pop back to halls to sleep between lectures if you've a few too many late nights! plus, there are some great places to eat nearby (that are cheap as well) - the best and most convenient for you would be ICCo pizza on goodge street. anyhows, if you have any more questions, then just message me.

i'm sure you'll have a great year!

hey pratikv, thx for your help. i have to say it sounds pretty impressive. however, my dad is asking me to email the college and see if it's possible for me to move to either campbell house east/west or the Arthur Tattersall House or the Gower St. House since these 4 halls are much nearer to my college (ssees) than the astor college.

So my question is, how r the other 4 halls? are they any better than astor college? maybe with bigger rooms? From the Student accomodation booklet, astor college looks pretty old there  and the others that i've listed do look better!!! Money is not a problem here and I have to have a single room. I need an urgent reply as I still haven't sent the residence reply slip yet and im in the overseas!! ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED!

thank you very much. your help has been much appreciated!
both sections of campbell house are nice, and i thin that campbell house west has been refurbished this summer, so it should be wuite nice. arthur tattersall is right on gower street and is also very nice - it's been awhile since i've been in there (especially in a sober state), but i remember that they had HUGE kitchens where everyone socialised, and people had stolen loads of comfy chairs that some other building was chucking out - it was a good place to hang out. the campbell houses and arthur tattersall are all very nice, and the buildings are much nicer - sash windows etc if i remember correctly but i might be mistaken. i'm sure that you'll enjoy any of them!

so, you're going to ssees? i think they have a good vodka bar around there somewhere - i stumbled across it this year when they were running 'drink the bar dry', and order that we followed to the t. the trouble is that i never managed to find it again (although i didn't look that hard!), so if you find it, let me know where it is!!!

anyhows, message me if you have any more questions.

in my opinion, i think that campbell house is the best of them, closely followed by the others. the rooms there are nice, and the kitchens are new (ish)! plus, the buliding is lovely.

i lived in astor college 2 years ago and thought i'd chime in...

while astor may be a bit older than the gower street/campbell house rooms, it makes up for it in its location. charlotte street is easily the best place to live in london. its not significantly farther than the other halls to ssees, and its a lot more convenient. you have 3 supermarkets (sainsburys, tesco, m&s) within a few minutes walking distance, as well as 3 tube stations (goodge street, warren street, great portland street). charlotte street itself is lined with pubs and restaurants of varying prices. oxford street is a 5 min walk away, and i could walk to much of the west end in 20 minutes. it saved on transportation costs! but, the area (fitzrovia) is off the tourist path, so its a bit less crowded than, say, soho.

any frustrations i had with astor were made up by charlotte street. i doubt i'll ever get to live in a place that great again! my recommendations: the fitzroy tavern, icco pizza place, italia uno, thai metro and of course NEEL AKASH. its my favorite indian place in london and also run by the friendliest staff possible. we always got a 10% student discount, and usually free popadoms or even a free bottle of wine. gotta love it.

hi gwynedd,
thanks for your post. glad to see that you enjoyed living in astor college. can i ask how many people were there per shower, toilet and kitchen?
and were all the rooms quite big or is it the more expensive rooms that were more spacious?
it'd be nice to hear from you
thanks!
