:frown: I was really looking forward to going to durham until people started saying theyve had bad experiences of cuths :frown:
about accomodation...people used to have to live in houses randomly about the city, but the parsons field accomodation was built for first years this year...it looks really nice and isnt that far from the college. theyre also building more accomodation there which will be offered to final year students. some students will have to still live in the houses tho i think.... xx

my first choice accom is a house round the city.. i dont like the halls idea... so yeh theres people still livin in them... though i havn't heard a thing from cuths about anything! They're so slow....

Why don't you like the halls idea? I'm just thinking that being in a house away from everywhere else in your first year might make you feel a bit secluded? I want to be as near to everyone as physically possible so I can try and make as many friends as physically possible!

I haven't heard anything from them yet either, but better late than never. I'm trying to be patient but it's so difficult! Plus, living in the "ghetto" of London, Chingford  , there was some sort of machete based madness at the bottom of my road on Friday afternoon, blocking my route to the pub - another reason why I want October to hurry up and get here and why my patience is running thin!

I don't wana be sticked w the whole 'halls' thing, i don't wana be stuck in the middle of everything, and i want a bit of freedom i dont wana be relying on someone else for meals etc...

I cant wait to move though its just dragging... especially since they've made no effort to contact us so we don't really know where wer gona be or anything... its like hanging in the balance for weeks on end... just when you thouhgt you'd get some stability coz u got ur a level results :frown:

And the machete based madness sounds rather terrifying i can understnd y ud wana move to peaceful old durham  lol

I really didn't like halls in my first year. The first thing that put me off was not finding out where I was actually being put until I had arrived in Durham with all my stuff in the car
Admittedly that puts me off.... but im yet to find out where im stayin anyway so dont spose it matters that much.... i just think it aint exactly movin out / gaining freedom if you're in halls.... well ok moving out but i would still feel trapped... maybe thats just me...

Although if i'm miles from cuths and the music dept i wont b pleased lol...

Yeah, everyone goes on about the freedom and independence you're supposed to gain while at uni but (I'm going to sound incredibly negative here but this was my impression at the time) college halls felt like a boarding school with rules and mealtimes and a bar. It must suit most people since they seem to love the experience but I'm sure I'll like living out and doing my own thing a lot better.
yeah i agree w the boarding school thing although (thankfully) i have never been to a boarding school and thus have nooooooo experience of them... id just rather do my own thing too
Do cuths have gowns? Does anyone know? I know Becca just put up a list of colleges that do have gowns and cuths was on that list, but i have a friend that goes there and is goin into 2nd yr and he told me they dont have gowns... now im a lil bit confuzzled

Oh well, someone who's there is probably right. Damn you wikipedia!
I'll change it. It must be something to do with it being a society not a college.

bit of a shame really i woulda quite liked a fancy gown
Make friends with some people at Castle or Hatfield and get them to invite you to a formal or two, that's probably the easiest plan. You would have to find someone to lend you a gown though.

Hey all, I'm coming to Cuths this year (Nat Sci). I got a fresher's handbook in the post this morning, but I've had nothing from the society about accommodation etc. In a letter I got it said it would be sent early September, but in a letter with the handbook it mentioned the information you've just received from the society, but I've had nothing! Is it just that the students are more efficient than the society staff?
I got my handbook too today but i've heard nothing from the society itself... i wouldn't worry no one i know has actually heard from cuths... so i assume they're just v v v v slow...
hopefully... could take several weeks tho :p:

Woo go cuths  Got the booklet this morning as well...interesting read. I would agree the entire uni is slow, I had to phone them up yesterday to 'remind' them to update UCAS so I can ya know get a loan/free money/anything else hanging on it. Oh and here's hoping my random place about town is reasonably close to the science site.
lol im hoping my random place isnt too far away from the music dept... bet it is tho! not that wel find out where we r til the day b4 we move anyway tho at this rate...

I put the bailey down as first choice for accommodation because I've got the chance to live at Parsons in the new buildings in my final year. I didn't want to put random houses in the city down because some of the houses in previous years were out past the train station near the hospital which is miles away from the science site. I wouldn't mind a random house near the science site though  , that's my hope for 2nd year!

Argh, I had a dream last night that Durham posessed 3 harpsichords from the 1600s that Bach and Handel had actually played....:s:
It's your fault for talking about harpsichords yesterday!!

Hehe I apologize for talking about harpsichords... but hey its more interesting than your run of the mill dreams
