Wisdom Teeth

So I went to the dentist today and again they keep going on about me "needing" to have my wisdom teeth out. The thing is that when I was in England my dentist took out some teeth to make room for my wisdom teeth later. I don't know whether this is something I really need, because to me it seems like a little American fad. (At over $100 a tooth why wouldn't they insist!) I've never been under anesthetic and I hate the thought of having my gums ripped open. Also, my reasoning is that since the dawn of time man has had wisdom teeth so why should I lose mine.

I would like to have one, though know it ia painful, when it grows

I think they don't remove them in England unless it's infected (or something like that). So ask why they want to remove them.

And if they don't hurt you might as well keep them, although having them removed isn't bad.

ive got like 4 growing through at the moment, they are actually growing through my gum, its very painful - wouldent recommend letting it get to this stage...

there's no option for 'No i dont have them because they havent grown yet.'

I can feel one growing right now, but its not come through my gum yet.. Hope they don't want to take more teeth out, I had to have 4 out before I had my braces!

My two top ones are trying to come through. They not getting very far though, been the same for months now.

I have three coming through at the moment and the last one I can feel just beneath the surface of the gum. They haven't given me any trouble yet (touch wood!), apart from the usual teething stuff. I certainly don't want to have them removed unless absolutely necessary, I'm a total wimp when it comes to stuff like that!

I went for a root canal a few months back. The dentist gave me a funny look when he finished inspecting the X-ray

'Doesn't that hurt?' He asked, pointing to a rogue tooth which was clearly on a mission out the side of my face.

Turns out one of my wisdom teeth is growing at 90 degrees to the rest of my teeth.

Funny that.

Ive got all 4 coming up now, the bottom two have almost finished growing and the top two havent broke through yet. They havent hurt much at all.

I had to wear braces for about 3 years (yep train tracks  ) and 4 teeth were removed because I've got a small jaw.Now my teeth are completely straight, but I'm worried that having 4 new teeth will mean crooked teeth again.

Do you think I should have them removed? :ahhhhh:

ive got one totally through, its not grown ideally straight. But i aint had any pain with it and no infections so i guess im gonna get to keep it. Its not exactly easy to clean though which concerns me, its a bit tight between my cheek and tooth. But the denist thinks its fine, i guess hes more suprised that im one of the lucky few not needing one pulled.
Mine haven't come through yet, although when they come through, I'll probably have to have them removed because I haven't got enough space in my mouth. After having braces to make my teath perfect, I really don't want them to go crooked again.
I have one coming through... but it doesn't hurt or anything. It's just a little pointy bit so far

Mine have all pretty much come through. Like some of you I had four teeth taken out before my braces. I don't really have a small jaw. The dentist says its best to remove them because they're hard to clean, but I don't take to surgery very well! I guess I'll wait and talk to a dentist in the UK and see what they say.
Mine have been coming out since I was about 12...stopped for a few years...then started again last year before stopping again.

Right now...they're half exposed. If they start running out of space...I'll get them removed before my other teeth get pushed out of positions.

Come on...I had my braces for good reasons. :p:

Yes but they are seriously impacted on the bottom and ruining my other teeth so they are coming out on the 9th of december

My top 2 wisdom teeth are coming down, they are currently half way down.
I've got two in my jaw, (I know my dentist and then maxiofacologist told me) but I'll have to have mine removed cos they'll move my teeth and I didn't have five years of dental work for that to happen.

I took out all 4, well the surgeon did...1 hour of unconsciousness awoken to a week of pain. But the pain killers were nice...
