Is everyone boring geeks at Warwick?

HI everyone,

im blonde, and am completely dippy and very untidy and am probably THE worst housemate ever! But i managed to get into Warwick (never in my wildest dreams did i think i would) by some stroke of genius, and i intend on having a really good time. i like getting drunk, partying till the early hours of the morning, and have been looking forward to going to Warwick for weeks. but, ive just been reading through, and 50% of the peeps on this site have been saying they dont drink, or they didnt go out in freshers week!?? what is going on?! please someone out there let me know you like partying too, i think i will die a long and painful death if i have to languish in my teeny room on a friday and saturday night working instead of having fun! I have appplied to whitefileds and rootes, and if anyone has these options down let me know!

also quick question, can you put posters up in your rooms at warwick?
please reply.

hey......

I was in the same boat as you Laura and im now going into my 3rd year.

Basically......there are a **** load of geeks at warwick and after visiting mates at other uni's such as leeds and bham I was a bit disappointed when I arrived to see some of the people there.

BUT..... and a big but may I add, not everyone is like this and there are alot of people that go out 5 nights a week, get hammered and live what many people see as a typical uni experience.

It all depends on what halls u stay in as I was lucky to meet alot of people like me, and getting involved with the uni footie team saved me. If you stay in Arthur Vick you're screwed cos no-one interacts with each other but you'll be cool if you stay in Rootes.

There will be geeks, but there are people who love going out and getting on it. I would reccomend broadening where you go out so you dont just go down the union all the time, go to bham, leam and cov and you wont get that bored.

Just find people with similar interests and avoid the library!!

if you have any more q's add me on msn [email protected]

take it easy!

I think you're really worrying yourself for no reason - I imagine that nearly everyone will enjoy going out and socialising with people they like. Don't let posts on here bother you as surely it's inevitable that most people who use this website will be rather more studious than those who don't.

I don't quite see why not drinking makes someone a 'boring geek' though. Some people have religious beliefs that prevent them from drinking heavily, others simply see it as a waste of money and still others will just drink in small amounts - don't stereotype people just because they are different to you (isn't university partly about widening your horizons?).

Someone on here seems to be quite fond of stereotyping in general. :p:

i agree with gaz, ive said it before, i say it again... some people dont need the alcohol to lower their inhibitions and to act as a confidence booster/social lubricant. As for going out, some people just have to study harder than others, some cant afford it... some just dont want to, hey - whatever makes people happy.

I can only agree with Gaz031. I do not drink because of my religious beliefs and out of conviction.

But I guess, almost everybody likes to go out, meeting people. I mean, I do not like to have conversations in a loud and crowded place. And I do not like to dance in a quiet room. There is time for talking and time for partying. And Warwick students will hopefully find time for both. Wont we?

Why do you emphasize that you are blonde?

Btw: I also applied to Whitefields (1st choice) and Rootes (2nd).

Precisely, i do not drink for a variety of reasons, but at the same time i love havin fun and socialising, the world wud be very boring if we didnt, and besides who cares if u drink or not, its quite a narrowminded thing to see that u need to drink to have fun and socialising, me personal i dont need it but its cool ppl want 2. u shud judge ppl from who they really are rather than anything other trivial matters
There will be a couple thousand undergraduates.... dont stereotype. On another note I am one of those people who is likely to get hammered every other day.
I don't drink much because most alcoholic drinks taste revolting to me. Although there was that Frisky Bison cocktail that tasted like apple pie....

I drink a lot. And I love it. I love going out, having fun... And despite the fact that I don't need the alcohol to boost my confidence (I'm a very sociable and confident person as is) I just enjoy the whole feeling.
But there is a "but" about me. When I get drunk I tend to fall into the pit of long philosophical discussions until the early hours. My idea of a great friday night is sitting over at somebody's house, drinking, smoking a hookah maybe, talking, watching a movie when totally drunk (that's always fun). Maybe singing a couple of songs  But hey... I love the whole going out to clubs and stuff from time to time as well. I plan to carry on my lifestyle to uni, I'm sure I'll find people who're like me. I've been labelled "the drunken intelligentsia" which I don't think that bad of a label, to tell the truth
However, I AM going to Warwick to study and that's top priority. Thank god my course allows me to be drunk half the time... You know us, creative people... We need the search for inspiration.

Oh and Laura, I've applied to rootes, whitefields and cryfield. Chances are we'll be in the same halls

sorry guys, didnt mean to be stereotypical like that. its just some of the posts that i looked at people said that they didnt go to the union at all in freshers week, and all this stuff about arthur vick and jack martin dont socialise with each other, and loads of people saying they dont like going to the union and would prefer to play cards. i didnt mean to offend anyone by saying that if you dont drink youre a geek- i didnt mean that all!!!!! i go out and dont drink and have great nights out too, so dont get me wrong, i was just overexaggerating a bit! i think its cool that you dont need to have fun on alcohol cus ur a fun enough person with out it! anyyways, nuff' said. so hopefully no-one thinks i am an idiot for writing that! lol. hope to see you all at warwick!

This reminds me of an instance where I danced on a stage, sang billy piper in front of a crounded pub completely sober :P in tenerfe - i can't sing, dance and did it for a laugh; well the audience found it funny!

It took each of mates 5 drinks to even stand on the dance floor and the moment they started dancing, they were needing to spew.

Ah, see I didn't go to the union during freshers' week, but that doesn't mean I didn't go out at all! There was just nothing on there that I wanted to go to. I much prefer pubs to clubs so I went out with people to various bars/pubs instead, or bought alcohol from Costcutter/Tesco and socialised in the kitchens. I like socialising and drinking as much as the next person (or maybe more ), just not really in the union.

Hey there's nothing wrong with the odd game of cards! Me and my friends have frittered away many an evening playing drinking-speed blackjack and it's a fantastic way to get incredibly hammered rather quickly (and this wednesday we cranked it up a notch to strip-drinking-speed blackjack at my friends' house-warming in Liverpool. There's a night not easily forgotten).

haha, I'm blonde and I like to say I'm not dippy but apparently I actually do conform to the stereotype...only I'm from Essex so it's worse :frown: I want to be taken seriously!
20,000 students at Warwick...think there's a good chance you'll find people to have a laugh with.
As for posters, I'm putting them up whether they like it or not :p: They're not exactly going to chuck us out.
