yeah it is. i have just completed business AVCE double award. it was a two year course, consisting of 12 modules, 8 coursework and 4 exam. it is accepted by most universities as an equivilent of 2 a levels- i had an offer of AAB from city, and i managed to achieve this by completing an a level alongside the AVCE. i think 2005 is the final year it will exist.

They're vocational A Levels, worth 2 subjects. However, some universities won't accept them, so check entrance requirements carefully.

Having an AVCE is a good alternative if you are weak in some of the main subjects.
Some Universities look down on AVCE's but, at the end of the day, 2 A Levels are 2 A Levels in whatever form you have achieved them in.

AVCEs can worth 1 to 2 A-levels. If you do a single award it's one A-level (6 units), and double awad is two A-levels (12 units). You can choose the modules you want to do while doing compulsary ones. Most of the module choosing will be in the second half of the course. If you are doing double award, you can choose modules in the first year (limited amount to choose) and you can choose modules in the second half of the course. For single award, you can't choose modules in the first year, but in the second year you can.

By the way, AVCEs are now called 'Applied GCE AS/A-level' from September 2005 onwards.
