There is a particular subject which I think is pointless in me taking it, so I wasn't going to go, but I hear you get fined for not going? Is that true?
What happens if you don't go? If you had an excuse e.g. illness?

Why cop out? Just sit through the exam and try your hardest.

I don't think so. But you might as well just go and do the exam.

yes

I don't want to do it because I could be spending my time revising for more important subjects that I actually need for my career (such as maths, which I need to spend extra time on because I'm so bad at it).

Reply 5

I don't know if you get 'fined', but the school usually makes you pay as they will have already paid for you to sit the exam.

Though, if you're i'll it's probabley different...

Your school might impose fines or other restrictions, but the exam board won't. Your school will have paid to enter you, so it isn't unreasonable for them to ask for that back

Reply 7

GCSEs are not that relevant anyway, although really you should be prepared for all of your exams. You should have spent extra time on Maths beforehand, and you shouldn't miss an exam in general unless you have profound mitigating circumstances.

You may think it's a waste of time, but to a certain extent, GCSEs are complimentary to each other, so A*A*A*A*BBBU won't look as good as A*A*A*ABBBC.
Just take the ******* exam.

If you don't go to an exam you get an X, not a U.

Not if you've done coursework.

(Technicality that I hope pans out.)

In my school if you do not turn up for the exam because you could not be bothered then my school passes the cost of the exam onto the student/their parents

At my school you get fined £30 an exam, there is a girl I know who just couldn't be bothered to go to the exam and her family now owe the school £120 and she won't get the certificates in August until she pays up... You have to pay unless you have a note from like the hospital saying you couldn't go in, you cant just say a cold or anything like a normal note.

In my school, if you speak to the person in charge of exams, they'll allow you to not take the exam. However, this must be done beforehand, and ONLY in proper cases - such as you've already achieved your target grade or something.

well on emmerdale one of the bartons girls didnt go to her exams and they havent been fined and at my school i didnt attend my re exam and they never asked me why i didnt go and they didnt tell me i have to pay my friend did her cache exam twice and failed it and now she got to pay to have it done again but they change the paper each time

Unless the person can prove that they were very ill (they have a doctor's note etc.) then I hope they are fined heavily; the exam still has to be paid for if they don't attend and in state schools it is paid for by the tax payer.

Can the school legally charge you? Or can you refuse to pay?

You would have wilfully wasted taxpayers money. It seems reasonable they expect you to pay the costs.
