Help finding a kids tv programme

I've been thinking about this for a few days, sure some of you can help.
I'm nearly 20 so it was a kids programme from the early 90's, and it was pretty similiar to Tots TV. But instead of soft felt puppets their faces looked hard, and they had really ugly elongated features such as their nose and chin. There were a few of them all with the same style face, but with different coloured hair and i'm pretty sure the girl was ginger.
Looking back now it's ******* scary, anyone remember the name?
