The show is funny and the show is well done, but they get a lot of information incorrect when reviewing the cars. I saw a Corvette review where they told the audience the rear suspension had "leaf springs" and that's not exactly true. The rear suspension has ONE transverse composite leaf spring (not springS) and the front suspension also has one composite leaf spring. Then Clarkson goes on to describe the suspension as "Vietnamese", implying that it is the same sort of suspension that you get on an ox-cart. All JC had to do was look under the car to understand that the leaf spring is not used as an axle locating device, which you won't find many in places these days besides pickup trucks. The reason the leaf spring is used is because it is much lighter and more compact than conventional springs. As you can see from this pic, the chassis and suspension isn't crude at all:
I think he is finally going to have to give credit where credit is due when the new Corvette Z06 comes to Europe in a few months. It just completed testing at Nurburgring and ran the 2nd quickest lap time ever for production cars. The only car to outrun it was the Carrera GT, which sells for 6 times the price. The Z06 turned in a faster time at Nurburgring than the Murcielago, Gallardo, Pagani Zonda S, Mercedes McLaren SLR and the Porsche 996 GT2.
