Click 'report post' on the first post in the thread, and in the text box, explain that you want the thread deleted.

Note that mods will only delete 10 threads per user.

One year later....

Me: So if you post something by accident you can't delete it as you might be afraid of using up your 10 deletion requests?

You can still delete your own posts (in open threads); the issue only arises with threads.

If in a dedicated thread, you could try bumping it (once only) if you've had no reply after a day or so, bringing it to the top of the thread list.
