hey just wondered if anyone could give me some advice. i'll be staying a few miles out from the uni (in headingley) so will need to get a bus in reckon the cheapest way of doing this is to get a bus pass but im a bit clueless as to how i go about getting one, what the cost is etc, can u get termly ones or a yearly one? and also are bus passes valid on all buses in leeds or only certain bus companies?
First Buses have a little office near the Corn Exchange where they will advise you on what the best pass to get is. You can get a termly pass for everywhere on First which is expensive or a "Green Zone" one which is fine if you live in Headingley but if you're in Bodington or somewhere thats too far.
They also have a stall out on Freshers Week as well, so don't worry about finding out about it, it will be easy enough and well publicised.
I used to buy a First weekly pass for £10 which would allow me to get any First bus within the Greater Manchester district at any time. I think Leeds has a similar thing, but you will have to check out which buses you need (some of them may not be run by First, thus quite pointless).
with bodington there was a leaflet in with the information+it says u can either buy them in the first buses office or from bodington hall itself the moving in weekend so maybe they'll do something like that but i dunno
Hi, the student card for first buses is £89 for the term or £39.20 for the month. The weekly ticket you can buy on the buses is now £12 I think (for all areas, it's cheaper for central Leeds). http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/yorkhumber/leeds/fares/students.php These are only valid on 'First' buses

most of the ones which run up and down town/Headingley ie between town, uni and where most of the students live, are run by First so you will be alright with the First passes.
They do those weekly passes for First in Leeds as well but slightly cheaper, if you want a Green Zone it was £7. I had a termly pass in my first term but because I was a couple of weeks late getting my second term one they told me I'd be better off getting weeklys.
It is worth getting some sort of bus pass whether you get a termly or weekly pass, if anything because it makes a night out that bit cheaper. If you have something which covers you on the bus there and back then your travel is free where taxis from Headingley to town will cost around £7...to Bodington I dread to think what they cost!
Also if you get a termly one they will normally offer you insurance for £5 or so extra, they give you a receipt slip so if you lose your pass, or leave it in your jeans when you put them in the wash etc, you can just go down to the office and get a new one rather than paying £70odd for a new one.
i got some info on the first card (the term one at £89) and it is now valid on all first buses in west yorkshire. so if you want to visit my lovely home town Bradford, or anywhere else nearby you can
I'm pretty fuzzy on the geography and bus routes, which would be the card to get if I'm staying at Oxley (which is above Headingley and before Boddington I think?)
From what you say it seems you might be out of the green zone (but I don't know that area) so your best bet is probably the £89 a term First card, unless you're planning on getting trains or other operators' buses.
If you're in Headingley, the best bus pass to get is the FirstTerm Greenzone one. It lasts for 3 months, and is £72. It works out around 90p a day. FirstDay tickets cost £2.10 a day, or £3 a day before 9:30pm! Bloody daylight robbery if you ask me!
If you get a metro bus pass you can use it on any bus that uses the metro stops (which is nearly all i think) so that propably your best bet you can get them in weekly, monthly, and yearly from the bus station or post office
does anyone know if Clarence Dock is in the Green Zone-can't really tell from that map. thanks
yes it is! its probably worth getting one of the passes too - it cost me a fortune getting day tickets last year - there was a cheap bus (752) that ran but it doesnt now cos First bought their company and scrapped it, so its way cheaper to buy a term pass and if you're as lazy as me walking wont be much of an option.
