THE Duke and Duchess of York expressed their pride yesterday after learning that Princess Beatrice had passed nine GCSE subjects with high grades. The Princess, who is dyslexic, passed two exams at A*, two at grade A, and five at grade B. Her top grades came in history and drama, with As in French and art.

Princess Beatrice, a student at St George’s School in Ascot, got B grades for English literature, English language, mathematics and double science, which is worth two GCSEs.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: “She’s delighted. The Duke and Duchess are so proud of both their daughters but especially Beatrice on the day of these fantastic results. The family celebrated together this morning.” Beatrice, who is 17 and fifth in line to the throne, took her GCSEs a year late. She had extra classes to help her with reading and writing.

Was it really year late I thought that pupils took their GCSEs when they were 16 and a half? If Princess Beatrice had taken her exams at the end of 2004 and not this year she had been 15 ten months.

It depends what time of year you were born. I know people who were 15 (but nearly 16) when they sat their GCSEs. Since GCSEs are done at the same time every year clearly not everyone is 16 and a half when they do them, unless everyone's born in December.

There were two seventeen year olds in our class taking GCSE.

She was 17 on 8th August 2005. She should be one of the youngest in my year (we've just taken AS's). Considering she's had an extra year of education, and presumably goes to a seriously good school, I don't think that's that great.

But still, anyone know what she wants to do at uni? She'd probably bypass entry requirements anyway!

Will she even go to Uni? The Royal Family don't exactly have a great history when it comes to educational achievement, really. I love how Prince Harry went to Eton and got like an E in Geography, and had to cheat just to pass Art.

cheat just to pass Art.

I remember seeing something about this in the newspaper. Does anyone know what happend? Surely that warrants disqualification?

He was cleared twice of cheating by edexcel the exam that he took his his A-Level Art through. Then whente teacher took Eton to court the court could not rule on wether he cheated. How did this get off the topic so fast I was only asking about Princess Beatrice?

She's got dyslexia! I think that's pretty darn good actually.

Yeah, I don't think those are bad grades at all! And especially for someone who has had to have extra classes in reading and writing. 2 A*s, however many As and Bs isn't bad! But, yeah, I see what you are saying. But everyone always assumes the Royals are like academic genii, and they're just not. Harry was funny though...I think William is rather intelligent, but why is Harry so thick? Diana was clever I thought, so his genes shouldn't be that bad (just a little in-bred!).

She's 17 because she was put in the lower year at school because of her dyslexia, they held her back a year. Really, to say she's a year older than everyone else taking their GCSEs, she went to a super good school, would have had the best tutors, you would have expected her to get the top grades. Unless her dyslexia is incredibly bad, I don't see why they held her back a year. One of my friends is dyslexic and got the second best marks in our year.

I think they're really good grades for someone with dyslexia! I read somewhere though that Eugenie was the 'academic' sister who wanted to got to Uni, Beatrice wasn't interested in Uni!

When she finished the GCSEs she was still 16 well actually 16 10 or 11 months old which seem to be about the right age. Just because of the cut off date she would have them 2004. What percentage of students take the GCSEs at 15 to 15 and half?

I took my GCSE's when I was 15, a few weeks off 16. Quite a few people did, it wasn't a big deal.

If she had extra classes for reading and writing then it would seem that her dyslexia isn't mild. I've known dyslexic people who manage without it, but their cases are milder.

I took mine when I was 15 too...had my last GCSE exam, Maths, on my 16th Birthday
