What's the deal with pulling?

I went out last night sober to my local nightclub and it got me thinking. The same thing would intrigue me at uni if i had only gotten the chance to soberly observe and think about it. Basically, why do so many (me included-probably) people dress up, go out, get pissed and stick our tongues down randomers throats who we are never going to see again. Even at uni where we have our own rooms, the most that usually happens is there is a drunken fumble, some nudity, a 3 hour sleep and a mandatory exchaning of numbers in the morning resulting in a few embarrassed looks accross the club next time and the odd nod in the street.

Now sex is an understandable end in itself, so is a relationship, but being as pulling usually has nothing to do with either what is the point?

pullling = no commitment

i personally cannot understand the whole pulling someone in a club thing... its a kiss, its not exactly that pleasurable (most probably drunken and sloppy). it just seems so pointless and naff.

no thats my point. if it was sexual relief without commitment then fair enough, but pulling, even at uni has very little to do with sex or relationships. I'd bet at unly only 5% of random pulls end in a shag or a relationship, be it on the night or in the future.
yea i agree... its a waste of time....maybe people just do it for show..like... omg... i pulled last night.. it was HOTT!!

because people definetly dont do it because its enjoyable...either emotionally or physically..

For me pulling has always meant taking someone home and having sex with them.
Therefore:
"so mate did you pull?" = did you get to **** the tasty bird i saw you chatting up early in the night?

No wonder I thought everyone was promiscuous/ getting more than me!

I suppose with some people it reassures them that they're desirable or whatever? Because lets be honest, we dress up to look attractive... and maybe pulling people seems like confirmation that someone's succeeded?

I used to think of it as that, hence "get your coat, you've pulled" .

But now most people use it to mean kissing.

i personally do not need to stick my tongue down some randoms throat to feel like ive succeeded in looking good! :p:

I always thought sex was the real meaning of the word before it was hi-jacked by 15 year olds talking about snogging

Its what us youthful humans are 'meant to do'

Well, me neither, but some people are just illogical...
[But I'm glad I'm not the only one!]

In my circle of friends 'pulling' means a drunken shag.
