who cares what your mum thinks, do what you want.
Learning is 1% intelligence and 99% effort (or so they say).
if your hearts not in the learning, you wont get very far :P
in my honest opinion, sociology sounds more respectable than media studies *shrugs*

Depends what your other subjects are I suppose. Media Studies is not very respected but if you have other good traditional subjects it's okay if you'll enjoy it. I would've done Media alongside mine if I could at my school because I'm interested in that kind of thing.

You want to do sociology, your mum wants you to do media studies. So what should you do? Sociology! Your mum isn't the one who will have to go to all the lessons, do all the work and revision and sit the exams, so she can't be the one to decide. I doubt media studies will give you more career options either because the media don't actually respect it! And sociology rules

Imo, Sociology sounds more respected than media studies...Isn't Sociology an essay subject?

Oh I see, whoops
To the OP, do whatever you want to study, you don't have to listen to your mum You will be the one studying these subjects, so do what you want and like to do and don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

OK, I'm copy and pasting what I wrote on another part of the board because I don't see the point in rewriting it:

(This is what my friends have been telling me all year, they wouldn't recommend it!...) Media Studies requires you to work in groups, if you have a rubbish group you get a bad grade. It causes arguments and this will make the 'easy' subject harder. Also the whole having to meet up with your group out of school, I'd prefer to do my homework, at home.

I honestly don't see the point in media studies, if you want to do that sort of thing as a career you're much better off going to college and specialising in it, otherwise it's just seen as a mickey mouse subject everywhere else. Also if you wanted to go into the business later, it's the kind of thing you need experience in, not A2 Media Studies.

Do sociology, media studies is considered the biggest mickey mouse subject of the lot!

If you want to do sociology, then do sociology! :p: If you don't have passion for media studies then it's likely that you won't do well and wiil get a bad grade, where as with sociology, because you actually want to do it, you will do well!

yes I think I'm just going to echo what most people said. At the end of it all, the decision is down to you and if you want to do sociology then do it. Personally I would disagree with what your mother said about media studies would give you more job opportunities. Even though I haven't taken any of those subjects, I would have thought sociology would be more useful and is more respected.

The other subjects i'm doing are Geography and English Lit, but it looks like i\m gonna have to tell my mum that I'm following my heart onthis one...

I'd definitely choose sociology, it's what you really enjoy, it's personally my favourite subject too.

You can get plenty of jobs from doing sociology, I'm going to do it for a degree and with it I'll still be able to be a teacher.
