5-a-side football is just as legitimate a sport. In fact I'm gonna do that too  It's very different to 11-a-side.

At college we played 4-a-side. That is one knackering game.

Cool, i'll join both. Hope it isn't nothing like my old school, 8 hooligans with the ball in 1 corner trying to kick it out but going for each others legs with no shin pads! Geez, i came out with a dented shin and 1 guy had a broken leg.
All 4 people were running after the ball lol, i hope it's more spread out
i think ill join the football society definitely bcus i want to carry on playing competetive 11 a side football after playin for the local asian team.........the table tennis society....a martial arts society cus i need to kno how to kik the crap out of neone who thinks students are easy targets..lol...and definitily the sikh society had the welcom freshers pack today aswel so ill look thru that n see how the societies sound...

In the handbook there isn't an Asian society as such but there are societies such as the Chinese, Hindu, Indian, Japan, Korean, Sikh and Thai Societies to name just a few.

Probably the rowing club.

UCL union gym doesn't have a pool, does it? I think I'll be using the UoL one. Probablt better as I'm in intercol halls.

What's the difference between 5-a side football and mens one  . Some of these societies cost a bit, i thought they were all for free :p:

the societies aren't expensive to join, and generally range from 3 to 10ish pounds per year.

yeah, there is an asian society. not all of the societies are listed in the handbook they send you anyway. plus, if you're passionate about something that they don't have, then just get some of your friends to sign up and create your own society - the uni will fund it (almost always)!
Flicking through the freshers handbook there are so many societies that appeal to me - like 7. However what is a reasonable number to join as there is no point in signing up for lots - for the hell of it and then not attending any events..

So the q is: What is a reasonable number of societies to join?

i would join the poker society if you made one

Well I joined 2 last year because those are the ones which I liked the best. I spend quite a bit of time on society stuff, but I think the number of societies you join should depend on how much time you want to spend in these societies, how much time you'll have left for your studies and how much you like these societies.

You will have a fortnight to TRY the societies you are interested in after you sign up at Freshers Fayre, before you are asked to pay up to become a member.

What about bridge?
Since you have 2 weeks to try different societies - is this is why it is called freshers fortnight? Seems like there are only 2 days of freshers for new students at UCL - 29th and 30th?

Is the rest of the week free to engage in society activities and settle down? Or do lectures start after enrolment?
