Oh dear, I haven't even heard back yet :frown:
Gosh, its probably called that due to the inhabitants having to share...i'd hate that. Is this a permanent placement, or just for the time-being?

Trust me to get Horwood Hall Block 'O' "the suicide block"...why is it called this, does anyone know?

Also, I gotta share my room with someone, the room that doesn't even have a wash basin..I wonder did the accommodation people even read my application...I'm sure everything will work out though!!

Shane.

I had Keele as my insurance and a few people have told my mum that there's been a few suicides amongst students that have been to Keele. It's probably not true though.

Haha. I love spooky 'true or false' stories. I'm sure plenty of uni's have the odd person topping emselves tho

Yeah Birmingham have the suicide tower...apparently loads of people have jumped from the huge clock tower in the middle of the uni...Urban legends me thinks to scare the freshers.
Suicide block is called so because (surprise surprise) it's where Keele people go to jump.
Keele has one of the highest university suicide rates in the UK (alongside STD and rape, supposedly). I think the last suicide was 2 academic years ago. It's not a bad block though, I've had some awesome times in there. Just make sure your legs are working, there's an awful lot of stairs...

Every university has suicides, it's really not much to worry about.

As for sharing rooms... usually you end up better than the rest of us. When a room becomes available for one of you to move out, I'd offer it to your room mate if I were you... if you stay in your room, you get a massive room, and TWO single beds- push them together and... voila! A double bed. Awesome.

when you put it like that! Sounds class
Every uni has a suicide place.
It's nothing unusual.

It may not be unusual but the idea of suicide is still scary.

I was sharing until i moved out to college court for medical reasons however when i enquired about how long temporary was they said it was until ppl decided 2 quit uni and seen as u ave 2 pay 4 a term (half price) cud mean u r in der 4 a term! sori 2b so pesimistic! altho wen i looked round durham they all loved the fact that they had 2 share said they made sum really gud m8s ones for life etc! if u really h8 it i fink der r a lot of rooms at college court cuz no-one wnts 2b off campus but dnt hold me 2 dat!
If you went to Newcastle (the small market town 5 miles away) it's got adequate shops for a quick necessities trip. Stoke has a much larger range of shops/pubs/clubs.
The uni has it's good and bad points, like ALL universities. Stop trying to scare all the new freshers, it's not productive or necessary. Let them make their own minds up when they go.
